    rear brake pads

Just had my car at the dealership for a failed ignition coil - free fix, under warranty or I would have done it myself =P

They called and said I was at about 4mm on my rear brakes. They said it would be $220 to replace them. I said no thanks, figure it's time I do it myself.

What kind of pads should I get? Is there a tutorial to replace them myself? Tools needed? Is it easy?

I can't spend $220 when I know the pads are only a fraction of that cost.

    Thanks for any insight fellas.

    Re: rear brake pads

I've Mintex Red pads for the rear. Braking is OEM like with very minimal brake dust.

    Re: rear brake pads

I just stopped by O'Reily's and got their house-brand upgraded pads. Much better than the OEM ones that were on there. Changing them is fairly easy, just make sure you have the caliper tool. You can find it at pretty much any auto parts store.

Edit: Oh, and it cost me like $30 for pads, $10 for the caliper tool.

    Re: rear brake pads

    Mintex are good.
pros: not a lot of brake dust
cons: we have had squeak issues in the past

Let me know if you need a price shipped.

    0o0o I hate the squeek!

    Any way around the squeek?!

    Re: rear brake pads

I have a question 4u guys, do the rear brake pads have a wear wire? I'm not to handy but I'm going to try to do this myself. Just spent like $700 @ the dealer last week and I'm not paying them to do the brakes to!

if you're referrring to a wear sensor, no they do not. only in the front. should be too hard, search for a tutorial.

    Re: rear brake pads

Just out of curiosity, front pads look okay on my car, BUT, when I go to do the replacement should I look into pads AND rotors?

And is the switch pretty easy? Since it has a censor?

i read and searched hundreds of threads before i decided on them... HPS was my other choice, but i wanted more performance and less fade...

i would go ahead and do all four.. the fronts are very easy.. you just unclip the sensor and plug in your new one.. ferodos dont have sensors so im just looping it and putting some heat shrink on it....

rears are trickier but not bad.. you do need the caliper retracting tool, it can be rented for free or bought for cheap and the rear allen head bolts are a BIATCH!!! i had to use a allen socket and use a 1/4" wrench to turn it.. but that was only the passenger side, the drivers side came off with an allen key
