    Stained window problem

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I could not find anything searching, there was something about it a while ago but it did not pop up...I have these little spots all over my windows, every window. They are definitely on the outside of the car.My windshield is covered with it and when it rains you cant see anything. I have tried everything to get it off, goo gone, paint thinner, every other house hold item i could think of, and nothing...Someone said there was a product that would get rid of it, i was wondering if anyone knew what it was...

    Thanks

    Re: Stained window problem

2 different solutions, you can use whichever you like.

    1. 0000 grit steel wool and window cleaner (your choice). Spray a liberal amount of the cleaner on the window, and work the steel wool up and down the window. Will take the spots right off.

    2. Clay bar. Usually works, but takes a bit more elbow grease to get stubborn spots off. Same principal as above for use. Spray plenty of the lubricant provided with the clay bar on the window, work the spots off.

After either one, wax your windows with your favorite wax. Yep, I said wax your windows. Work better and last longer than Rain-X, and without the hassle of trying to get your windows streak free.

    Re: Stained window problem

    i used steel wool, nothing
used the clay bar, nothing...nice waste of 20 bucks for all of that

Did find something that works and works fast...its called rust stain remover....put it on and within seconds the spots came right up....wonderful product, it does say dont use on windows but i used it real quick then washed the window with soap n water...Came out great....

    Re: Stained window problem

Interesting. I've used steel wool and clay bar, both did wonders for me. There's also a guy around that sells a products specifically for water spots on windows. It's almost a paste, works wonders. Can't remember the name off the top of my head, I'll post it up when I get home.

    Re: Stained window problem

ok so i used it on the windshield...It cleaned the whole thing but now where the windshield wipers hit on the windshield, theres a fog on it, the rest of the windshield is very clean except where it matters most. i tried vinegar to get the fog off but did not work...Now i need something that will clean that fog off..Anyone have any ideas??
I think it may be time for a new windshield.

That's probably why it said not to use it on glass.
A new windshield may not be a bad idea at this point. With all the stuff that has been on your windshield by now I'm surprised it hasn't melted away. lol.

you can see thick individual lines on the windshield from the wipers.

    Re: Stained window problem

The glass was probably already etched from the wipers, and when you got the rust remover in them, the acid etched it even more and fogged it. You could try polishing it, but other than that, you're SOL.

    Re: Stained window problem

You can probably find some kind of glass polish at a hardware store, or even an auto parts store. You could try using some car polish (non abrasive), but it might just leave residue behind in the etching. Or...you might just try washing the car with soapy water, that might help?

This stuff will do the trick- http://www.detailersdomain.com/index...ROD&ProdID=131
Also if you have a rotary you can polish your window with a buffing compound to remove scratches or etch marks from windshield wipers.

    Re: Stained window problem

thanks for the help guys, i went to an autobody shop and let them look at it, they said they used the same stuff i did to get the real hard crap off and sometimes when people dont change wiper blades often (previous owner did not) this will happen. so i am going to try the polish it to see if it works...There are no cracks or anything, i ran my hand on the windshield with my fingernail and did not feel any cracks at all..So i think it just needs a good polish. thanks again

    Re: Stained window problem

A polishing compound using an abrasive at least as hard as the glass itself, is required to polish out the wiper tracking marks. A random orbital sander setup with a cushioned pad, to apply the polish will be a lot easier and faster. Using a coating over the existing wiper scoring, may help a bit for a short time, but can cause problems seeing clearly when wet or when the film becomes contaminated.
The proper fix is either polishing the glass with a specialty glass polish, or replace the windshield.

A Cerium Oxide polishing compound made for glass polishing is recommended.

    Re: Stained window problem

Good to see dianosticator offering up help again. I have the exact same streaks on my windshield, plus I have a nice crack in the lower passenger side (which I didn't notice until AFTER I bought the car). I think I may just break down and get a new windshield...
