temp gauge stuck at cold most of the time...

so this happened about a week ago from my house to a gas station about 5 miles away. i got gas started the car and it was fine again. this morning the same thing happened. i drove for a couple miles and the needle was still sitting on C. a couple times throughout the 14 mile drive to work the needle would pop up to the middle line where its supposed to be, but it would then fall back down to C again. this happened for a third time on my drive home, from work until i was about 5 miles from my house the needle was on C, then i was sitting in traffic and it jumped to the middle line and was fine the rest of the ride home. i talked to a guy at work and he said since i was getting heat out of my vents that he doesnt think its the thermostat. he said there may be a sending unit or something like that that may be going bad. i meant to check alldata at work to see if i could dig anything up, but never got a chance to. just thought i would get a second opinion from the audi community. thanks a lot for the input!

also, wasnt there a recall on the thermostats? what years was that for? thanks!

Have you vag'd? My thermo faults did not show up in the engine blocks if I recall correctly but in the instruments panel iirc... sounds like a thermo problem or the signal is not reaching the instrument cluster. You should log engine outlet temps in block 134. I'd figure the heat exchanger is responsible for heat coming out still since the coolant flowing through it is gonna be hot when the car is running regardless...

Re: temp gauge stuck at cold most of the time...

when my green sensor went out it threw fault codes in the engine blocks...

*edit...oops, would have brought up the sensor in my last post, but I guess I didn't read your original post too precise as I thought you already checked for fault codes with vag...
