Question Spark Plugs/Coilpack question (Bosch F6DTC)

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
ok, so I am getting misfires under boost (BAT setup) and I was told it was probably just the tune b/c its not quite finished. but I decided to check the plugs anyways, Im running the Bosch F6DTC's. I cleaned them and went to put them back in but notice that the coilpack doesnt really "click" onto the top of the plug, is that normal? Its been so long since I ran BKR6E's I dont remember what they felt like, but is the coilpack suppoed to "snap" onto the plug or does it just sit there, it almost feels like the Bosch's arent long enough, though I doubt that. And I threw on a new coilpack (my spare) just to check and it felt the same.

I would say it's coilpacks. B/c I was having the exact same problem. I only had one bad coilpack butbi went ahead and replaced all 4. It was only 100 bucks for them.

I have the hitachi's for the 2000 I think they are a little more, but maybe I'll find a good deal, I checked VAG-COM and it said I have multiple random cylinder misfires and individual misfires also...

no doubt they are also the plugs I use... just for the BT applications would have thought you wanted colder plugs.

Re: Spark Plugs/Coilpack question (Bosch F6DTC)

i ran f5's, they're a very cold plug. went back to the f6dtc and never looked back. if I ever go back to and bosch 5 plug, it'll have to be in a iridium/platinum setup.

Forget bkr6e. Youd want bkr7e w/ a bat. Misfiring only under load can be a sign of a cracked spark plug inuslator. Check them for very small hairline cracks. That'll do it. Especially if you're running too hot of a plug.

F6DTC is 1 step colder then stock
F5DTC/FR5DTC is 2 step colder then stock

I run F6DTC pushing 32psi on my 8.5:1 CR setup. The BAT setups can use a little hotter plug since the turbos move air at a much cooler temp then a BT and K03/K04 setups. Now if he is running very low boost at this point he might want to run a stock heat range plug since the IAT's are going to be really low and his cylinder temps are also going to be lower, then when he goes in to have it tuned for high boost he can throw the F6DTC plugs back in.

I agree, I probably should/will I just dont like flaunting my shit unless its in person and even at that I'll only do it with enthusiasts, not my local yokals.

Mike, I am running at about 26lbs right now so I think my plugs should be fine, I cleaned them up and it runs much smoother, but after a day of driving I am still getting cylinder 1, 2, 3, & 4 misfires and multiple random misfires, when the tune gets to the next step I will post back and let everyone know what the problem was, and if anyone has questions about my setup feel free to PM me, I'll be more than happy to help if you get stuck as would many people here.

Re: Spark Plugs/Coilpack question (Bosch F6DTC)

Does the resistor part make a difference? as in the FR5DTC over the F5DTC's?

When I tried to the the F6DTC's I got some REALLY BAD misfires under boost. Switched back to the FR5DTC's and it ran like a champ.

turn the boost down and see if the misfires go away. you could just be blowing out the spark.

Hey, any plans to hit Fontana next weekend for Battle of the Imports? Even if you dont want to run in a class they have a lane just for fun runs, would love to see what times you can run.
