Flip your key out, and look inside. It is there with all the numbers you need. And just to let you know you will still need Audi to program the key.

Open the key and look in the key slot were the key is housed when it is closed. The code is written there. Its hard to see but it is there.

Re: Whats my FCC ID code for my key?

So the FCC ID # needs to be an exact match then? or the other number?

I'm just here to help. As far as just being the FCC # being the same i'm not sure. I think the FCC can be different but you want the number that looks like this the same: 8E0 837 220 L (thats what my # is) I could be wrong but i'm pretty sure that's what you want!

I've also heard that some times, regardless of the FCC#, a previously programed key fob (like what's sold on ebay) can not be re-programed to work on your car.

But then not all of us would get to share in the knowledge fest!

If you vag-com or access to it, you should be able to reprogram I believe. If it is anything like the mkIV VW keys then you need to repgrogram all the keys at the same time.

Re: Whats my FCC ID code for my key?

Wasn't there just some class action lawsuit about reprogramming the keys? I don't remember what the judgment was, but I got some letter in the mail from Audi about it...

Re: Whats my FCC ID code for my key?

I think the letter said that you will need all the keys to reprogram 1 key. and to bring it to the dealership to do so. and if you have problems bring it to the dealership. I think it was just an informational letter more then anything!

Re: Whats my FCC ID code for my key?

I threw it away, so I'm just going from memory here, but I believe it was saying that Audi illegally prevented people from getting rekeyed from 3rd parties. So not all key places may have the necessary equipment, but it's theoretically possible to get a key to work without going through the dealer. It may just be easier/cheaper to go through the dealer anyway, though. :)

Re: Whats my FCC ID code for my key?

I don't know if anything through the dealer is cheap! I am going from memory too. All i know is that I only have 1 key fob and the plastic key. I would really like another one but $300ish for a key isn't worth it right now!

I called one north dallas dealer a couple months ago and he quoted something along the lines of $120 for the FOB, $65 for the Key Blade, and then $60 labor to program all the keys.

Found a link to the announcement: http://www.vw.com/myvw/yourcar/smart...tionNotice.pdf

Probably not really that useful, anyway...

Sorry to bump this thread up, looking at replacing my B7 key with a new replacement. A few questions:

    1. Is eBay my best best for a replacement key (not just shell) with uncut blade?
    2. Does the FCC ID need to be the exact same?
    3. Anything else I should look at when looking at a replacement key?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks,
    Asif
