Vis racing Carbon hood compared to a OEM hood, What is the wieght difference??

Im interested to know what the difference in wieght the swap of hoods would yield??

I believe it's about 30lbs.

I think OEM hood is about 45lbs

VIS is 15lbs-20lbs.

I have this hood and it is very light.

Can you run these hoods without pins? I want to run a carbon one but doubtful about fitting one without pins. Are they really stronge enough?

In my opinion yes, this is my second car with a carbon hood. Although the first did have hood pins, There are only there for looks and added insurance incase your stock hood latch were to become faulty. To have a hood come flying up in your windsheild @ 60-70mph is not fun as i learned with my first car at the age 19.

I've heard quiet a bit of stories in the b5 A4 forums about carbon fiber hoods and hood pins. I would recommend that you do get hood pins because at high speeds it turns out the hood does open up and causes a lot damage to front windshield and top of the car. Some of them were told that they didn't need them but shit happened.

I agree, but i decided i didn't want any.I've tracked my car plenty of times also had the late night rolls going up to 150+ and i've been fine. Point is the stock latch is reused and is mounted under the stock location on the carbon hood if that fails yes your in trouble but i always check mine, 2 years and stil going.

Oh yeah there is no gaurantee that it will happen, but better safe than sorry, you know.

But yeah it's good that yours is fine, afterall they are meant to be safe. Knock on wood that nothing bad happens.

I think i could put up with some pins, the flush aerocatches seems to be the decent looking way to go. Better than a broken windscreen, bent roof, and smashed face! The cost of the possible repairs and damage outweighs a few quid for some peice of mind just in case!

the vis carbon is pretty light. figure that you can lift it over your head like paper by yourself. the oem one is nothing like that

i will eventually get pins. although when i had mt other car with a carbon hood i was showing off my shiny new ricer blow-off and forgot to close my hood. My car looked just as bad as the yellow car- hood came up @ like 70mph.

Definitely get hood pins, if running CF.

A damaged car is bad enough, but a busted face, hell no.
