During clutch replacement, how often is stock Flywheel shot?

Ok so my clutch is out, and I've decided to go ahead and do slave cylinder while i'm at it.


My car is coming up on 98k miles, stock clutch.

Can I be confident in buying a clutch kit, and just reuse old flywheel, or what? It is the dual mass flywheel I believe.

I know I can go with SB clutches, but they dont resurface for free anymore.

Plus I don't wanna have to send it in.


ALSO, how much fluid does transmission hold, and is it same fluid as brake fluid?

I believe it is best practice to resurface the flywheel, since the teeth could be rounded, or replace with new when doing a new clutch.

you can usually find a resurfaced one in the classifieds or another one you can send in before doing yours... what is southbend charging now>?

tranny holds about 4 liters ( i had the center differential out too though, others have told me like 3.5 liters)

make sure you get new center driveshaft bolts, flywheel bolts and pressure plate bolts and have a 10mm and 12mm triple square/spline drive socket and a full set of allen head sockets

YES! mine looked fine, but it was more worn down in the middle but i couldnt tell till southbend ground it down even

it may not be "shot" but it does need to be resurfaced.. especially if you have drove it to where its not driveable anymore

Throw out bearing is typically included with a new clutch. The fork isnt under any wear, no need to replace it
