    I discovered an oil leak

So I just discovered i have an oil leak. Its either a cam seal or tensioner so im going to tear the whole front off and try and replace it myself. I have a friend whos a mechanic who is going to try and help me. the work for someone to do it was 1000 bucks that just too much. If i was to do it myself and pay my friend it would be like 150 bucks. My friend usualy works on other german cars but hes worked on an audi a4 1.8T and replaced the timing belt. Should we try to do this job cause i know if we do it wrong we will end up having a job that costs 5000 bucks. Hes changed 50 timing belts on other cars. I know I will need some special tools looking through the repair manual but it seems pretty simple. Any advice.

If you and your buddy know what you are doing go for it. It shouldn't be too hard if you have the right parts.

Sure it's not the valve covers? If so, it's an easy job. Cam seals aren't much worse.

i don't think you have to take the front out to replace the cam seals... I'm getting ready to do this and I don't know yet if is the valve cover or the seals but either way you don't have to take out the front or am I wrong I don't know anyone care to share their knowledge.
