    Re: Adjustable Steering Response?

WhyTF would you want it to handle like a BMW?

That option is only availible on the new B8 A4, and is part of an adjustable performance package that changes the suspension stiffness and steering response on the fly with the touch of a button.

No setting to do this. Our VAG is too old, heh.

Seriously, though, about all you can do is take out the servotronic steering assist relay, but that only keeps the wheel from lightening up at low speeds.

With my experience disconnecting the servontronic fuse, the steering is much more responsive at all speeds. I don't like the idea of a computer helping me with steering. I love the way the car feels without it.

Are there any repercussions to pulling the servotronic fuse?

On my old A6 4.2, I removed the servotronic relay. It basically decreased the amount of assist, increasing effort at lower speeds. You can't tell a difference on the highway.

I know that on newer CAN-based VW's, you can adjust the amount of assist through VAG-COM. Maybe someone can check this on the B7. I would but I have the "R"S6 today

    Re: Adjustable Steering Response?

Where is the fuse for the servotronic located on our B7s, and is it labeled as such?

The assist in the A4 feels so artificial.. but if it only helps during low speed driving it would be best left on.

Pull the Servtronic fuse and the steering feels much more in touch in my opinion. If you don't enjoy it you can just put the fuse right back in.

    Re: Adjustable Steering Response?

I believe there were some VAG adjustments on the TT cars that had servotronic. I looked and looked and couldnt find any for any of the A4 cars. It's not doable unfortunately. I tried the servotronic fuse and unfortunately it becomes terribly heavy in parking lots and such then lightens at speed. It just doesnt mimic a benchmark steering system at all. Drive a B6 A4 without servotronic back to back with a B7 A4 and the difference is noticeable. The B6 feels just right. Shame. I have the same prob with my S4 as well. You learn to live with it.

    cheers! Mike

It helps the responsiveness at least up to 40-50 mph. I have a lot of winding roads where i live and it has been a night and day difference after pulling the fuse. Where i noticed it the most is when transitioning between a left and right corner(or vice versa).

    Re: Adjustable Steering Response?

I think I may pull mine. I had really stiff steering in my w202 C-Class and I really didn't know I missed how that felt till I'd been driving the A4 for a while. Now I know it's definitely not going to mimic BMW steering, but it might bring back the feeling I miss from my old Benz.

    Re: Adjustable Steering Response?

I find it funny that a lot of people who drive tuners or economy cars want our light steering feel, while we want their responsive steering feel. Grass is always greener huh?

    Re: Adjustable Steering Response?

from what I heard from a vw/audi tech, the cars are set at 1-5 in terms of steering assist. A GTI may be a 1 where a passat is a 5, for example. This carries up into audi as well. He told me that by pulling my servotronic fuse I was completely disabling this range and effectively setting a "0" for no assist. It's not turning off your power-steering though..

^ the above is simply relayed information..about the steering relay :p
