    Angry Clutch driven fan/radiator

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Well I have officially put my first step into the money pit. Drove my 01.5 S4 home the other night and heard a bang while driving, when I reached my destination I was surprised to see the shroud of the clutch driven fan had flown apart and managed to tear a little into my radiator.

Any thoughts on aftermarket radiators and how time consuming and $$ to convert to an electric fan, cause I work at a car dealership and have never seen an electric fan to this.

    Thanks in advance

Ok, so here is the update. DIY went well and wasn't near as hard as I thought, just time consuming.

Did you pull the actual clutch fan assy, or just the fan blades? The assy should come off too. It's reverse threaded, so clockwise will loosen. You'll need to secure the housing before you can loosen the nut.

No, see I didnt pull the shroud (Fan) off, it flew off when driving. Im going to take off the Viscus assembly tonight, securing it before turning should be fun, but I do have some big tools in the garage. Big pipe + Big wrench

LOL, that's crazy. Well, it'll free up some rotational power...maybe 1 hp...if that.

And if you notice any difference. Power, temps, etc...

I know when I went to an electric fan on my pathfinder, it freed up a lot of low end power.

    Re: Clutch driven fan/radiator

^^^ I got the fan from VAST performance and it is not wired in yet, I was debating where to put it. Where into the thermo switch or put a toggle switch underneath my dash. I have been driving it for a week and with it not running my oil temp still stays between 200-212 and my coolant temp is always in the middle. The two other fans are more than enough to keep the car cool as longs it isn't 95 degrees out and I am sitting in traffic with the A/C on. That's why I decided on the toggle switch, so then I can turn it on when I want and turn it on after the car is turned off and if I was running it hard.

As far as power it may be smoother at low end, but I don't know for sure.

i have the VAST EFK as well.... dont ever let it fool you, you dont have to listen closely to see if its on or not ! sometimes if i idle my car in a parking garage and im like outside of it i just laugh at how loud i have made a once quiet and tamed Audi!
