    Interior Pictures of Sunroof Removed?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I've found plenty of information about a sunroof delete, but I have yet to find any pictures of the interior end result or progress.

Does anyone have pictures of what the roof looks like from the inside after removing the sunroof mechanism?

    Thanks - Chris

Weight reduction. Possibly because the OP's sunroof is inoperable....

Re: Interior Pictures of Sunroof Removed?

I'm currently trying to get a feel for the differences between the interior of the roof sheet metal for a sunroof and non-sunroof car.

I need the headroom provided by a non-sunroof car... but if removing the sunroof gains the necessary headroom, I can broaden the search for my next car. Seeing a picture of the inside of a sunroof car with the sunroof mechanism removed will help me to understand the work required.

unless your over 6'4 or so i dont see why you would need a non sunroof car for headroom. i'm 6'2 and with my seat back all the way up i have at least 5 inches over my head. about 1 inch with a helmet on

zrowcool - I need the headroom. My head currently touches the sunroof rail when sitting in my ideal position (without a helmet).

I'm not that tall 6'1"-ish and I haven't had a problem w/ my helmet on.

However I do have to take sides. I will be removing mine at one point and installing the C/F sunroof delete. It's a good amount of weight at the highest point of the vehicle. Mine can only tip up at this point, and I leave the shade over it 95% of the time anyways.

Are you looking to remove the sunroof assembly and installing the headliner w/o the sunroof hole? Is your seat at it's lowest position?

Re: Interior Pictures of Sunroof Removed?

I realize people post with helpful intentions, but I’m not sure my height matters. Regardless, here is my “hitting my head” situation. I am 6’ 0”. I have reasonably short legs, so the seat is slid fairly far forward. The seat rails are mounted on an angle so the further forward you slide the seat, the higher it gets. The combination of that and a reasonably long torso puts my head in contact with the ceiling with the seat at its lowest position (without a helmet). This has been the case in all of my cars [before modification].

The A4 Avant I currently have is driven primarily by my wife. I’m looking for one for myself. I’m trying to find out if removing the sunroof assembly, filling the sunroof hole, and installing a properly shaped headliner will have the same headroom as a “no sunroof” car. I suspect seeing pictures of the inside of a bare roof will help me come to a conclusion. “No sunroof” Avants are few and far between. If find I can have the same headroom in either with some modification, it will allow me to look at many other cars.

presuming you make the gaping hole flush with the headliner, you wont gain any headroom. Unless of course you have somehow figure out a way to push the entire headliner higher.

Haha, me too, straight up. If I have 4 people in my car, I always have a disclaimer, "shortest gets the shaft and sits behind me."

I track and Autocross my car with a helmet all the time without problems, of course my seat is one notch from all the way back and the seat sits as low as possible.

Here's a question, is it possible to modify the height of the seat bracket? If you could get the seat 1" lower, thats 1" more headroom, instead of gambling that the sunroof delete will give you clearance. Just my $.02

bikerbob951 - I plan to do both sunroof delete (if it turns out to be as good as no sunroof) and seat bracket modification because I want to be able to wear a helmet.

Let me know how the seat bracket mod goes, I don't have a headroom problem, but I'd love to sit a little lower, that would help greatly for autox. Good luck!
