Another AWE Exhaust question --- hangs too damn low

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I've seen some AWE setups in here where the tips look like they're set at "normal" stock height. How'd you guys achieve taht?

My setup hangs way too low .. positioning looks like an afterthought. I'd like to raise it somehow - would zip ties work? Suggestions? Thanks.

Did you install it yourself or have a shop do it?

You can try a small metal clamp around the stainless steel post of the exhaust so it doesn't slide out of the hanger. That should help it stay level.

I agree with the shorter clamps (the U shaped ones) but I don't think a zip tie would be too good of an idea.

dont buy a b7 and fix it with zipties... Any exhaust shop should be able to fix this, a few pics of the current setup would be helpful.

pics, no zip ties and go back to show to adjust the hangers...it shouldnt go lower than how oem has them.

When i saw an exhaust install, the hangers have a screw you should be able to adjust it a tad more up.

Re: Another AWE Exhaust question --- hangs too damn low

Did your stock system have level tips? There is not really much adjustment in the AWE system - because of this it has to be made precisely (unlike Milltek which is held together with clamps so you have to rotate the mid and rear sections to get a good fit - I was always re-adjusting my Milltek). There is one adjustment screw that connects to two rear sections which is really more for side to side adjustment. I suppose if the install was not that great it may make one side lower then the other. If you remove the screw between the two rear pipe sections, you may want to have a couple people to hold each tip horizontally and vertically level so you can tighten that screw back up. Less likely, you may have a bent exhaust hanger on the AWE rear section (the hanger is on the muffler). The metal hanger on the muffler slides into the rubber hanger on the car. Adjustment screw is pointed to in the picture below where it says "Mandrel bent tubing"

I spoke to our technician and he suggested looking at the shims installed on your exhaust hangers. Check to see if you have enough clearance to remove some of the shims without making the exhaust hit anything. This should allow you to get the exhaust to sit how you want it to.

Let me know how it works for you!
