    AC problem.. need help!

Okay, I've gone through the possible lists of things I can do.

AC is not working, it just keeps blowing air out but does not cool the air at all. You can only feel the AC cools the air a little bit at night/cold conditions or when I drive at high speed. Checked my freon level everything is good. Compressor engages when I press the snow button on AC panel. After searching the forums I noticed there's alot of people mentioning the problem with 2ndary fan (the one beside the big radiator fan). And yes, that 2ndary fan does not start in my car no matter what. I checked the fuse, the 40amp fuse seems to be fine.

Now, I am wondering what would be the next step for me to check right now. What could be the problem causing the 2ndary fan not spin at all?

Also another concern I noticed is when I make a big left turn with my car while the compressor is on, it makes this high pitched noise. It does not make any noise if the compressor is off, what could be the cause of that?

Any help or info is much appreciated!!!

It may be that you have low freon and possibly a bad 2ndary fan relay. Might be a compressor or module issue. When you say the freon level is good, how did you determine this?

Theres an excellent write up on the CC module & on-car diagnostics you can do from the control head. This one is for the A4 before 2000.

Have a read, go out and play and report back your findings, like trouble codes. With you being in the ATL, I wouldnt imagine any need for air conditioning right now anyway.......

I had the same problem as you with the a/c not getting cold, My cousin is a mechanic and we flushed the system and recharged it and still it was not getting cold, turns out it was a little $7 part called an orifice tube it is a little plastic tube that goes in the high side a/c line right were you connect the charge hoses. Not saying this is your problem but it could be and hopefully it is. My cousin replaced mine with a GM part it was the same thing as the Audi part. Hope this is a help.

Oh yeah, clogged with dessicant from the receiver/dryer blowing its guts. If this is clogged, you need to replace the dessicant too. A pressure test can discover this problem quickly...high side ok indicating compressors working, but low side is high and thus warm. Engine @ 1000-2000 rpm and secondary fan running.

The 2ndary fan is not running at all no matter what condition. Any pointers to check if it's a bad fan motor or where to check the fan relay?

As for the freon level, it was checked by the shop that does AC service and all level was okay.

have you checked the relays by removing the knee bolster?

Got any CC codes from the little DIY posted? They might help.
That gray box labeled 370 is the fan relay IIRC.

FYI, the silver boxes are circuit breakers.

give me a minute and i'll find a post that you can follow through to run diagnostic codes on the climate control.
I went through the same problem a few months ago and it ended up being a leak in one of the low pressure lines near the radiator.

Ewok_Fetus knows his shit when it comes to this as he helped me out.

BigD what year is your car? The DIY I put up in post #2 is for model years 2000 and under. Romeos got a link to 2000 and up cars.

Anyway ,like we say, post up codes if you got em.

Excellent thread you linked to Romeo. I've heard Ewok got a new set of wheels, but may stop by from time to time.

OP, the CC head diagnostic DIY sounds harder than it actually is. Just start punching buttons. You cant hurt anything.
