    body kit install

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey guys, So i was just curious on about how much I can expect to pay for an install on a body kit. I was quoted by one shop for 1200 bucks which to me seams ridiculously high, however I have never had this done.

This would be including painting the bumpers/sideskirts and mounting.

Please let me know what you guys have paid and if any of you know any shops in the bay area (ca) that do good work for cheap, please pm me haha.

    Thanks in advance

    Re: body kit install

Does that include paint or only the install?

What "body kit" are you going with?

He said $1200 was for paint and install. That doesn't seem too high for both, but I might be wrong.

Includes paint, IMO its a bit too expensive. Maybe half of that would seem reasonable

    Re: body kit install

thats how i feel. I need to get a few more quotes and check out my options. I am 95% sure I am going with an RSR kit. Don't see too many out there. a lot of rs4 kits out there but I like the RSR a lot more. what do you guys think? RSR or RS4 kit? I am not a huge fan of the rs4 rear bumpers on the kit.

    Re: body kit install

My perfect body set up would be a euro trunk with the m3 style lip, euro s4 rear bumper, rs4 front bumper and s4 side skirts. Clean and simple. But that's just me. Just do what will make you happy, who cares what other people think.

I am really not a fan of the rs4 or the rsr kit, i would rather convert to s4, but in your case if you really want it, do it. what color is your car? Black would look pretty cool with RSR.

    Re: body kit install

my only issue with installing the kit is painting it, not too mention i have no background with body work. I don't want to get the kit on and have it look bad. on the other hand, I don't want to pay 1200 bucks to have it installed. that seems outrageous to me. If its not that hard to do, why does it cost so much?

I don't think $1200 is too far off from what you may find from other quotes. As a reference, i dropped my car off on Monday to have the lower's painted, roof painted, and b-pillar caps painted - $1300.

Look at your quote to see what all is included in that price. You need to factor in labor, parts (if necessary), and paint. Having someone do the work for you isn't going to be cheap. If you want cheap, better get MACCO.

    Re: body kit install

FWIW, I plan on purchasing this video and will attempt painting myself when time comes for me. I just ordered an air compressor for something else, so that will always come in handy. There are DIY write ups everywhre on how to do side skirt installs (biketsai has a good write up for the S4 side skirts), take off bumpers and so forth. I would just attempt to place them on myself (plus there is always places like Audizine where you could always ask for assistance). Painting is a different story though. As stated, I would attempt it myself with help from that video. You never will know if you can do it properly if you never try. Could save you close to maybe 85% of that $1200 if you attempted to do it yourself. Figure that extra money is for air compressor, paint gun, paint, video, hardware for bumper/side skirts, miscalaneous things that comes along, and headaches (it will happen that accompanies learning new things. but it is all worth it when the job is done knowing that you did it, and can always do it again in the future if you wanted).

Oh, and when I get my kit I am going to do a Reiger RS4 Front, S4 or Avante Garde (if I can find them) or other ones I have looked at side skirts, and S4 rear bumper or stock a4. Simple, but my car is black. Not so flamboyant.

    Re: body kit install

I know when I got my front/sides/rear painted my local shop that I always go to did $390 for all the pieces, i installed them myself though. Pays to stick to one shop and get to know them, especially when they do good work. I was quoted $400 for just the bumper alone at some places.
