    Socalers w/Testpipes??

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Whats up everyone-

I am running a B6 A4 1.8 frontrak, and am just curious how any of you who are running Test pipes deal with emissions? I'm at APR 1+ currently and want to add a TP, but wondering if i am going to have to swap the cat back in for the emissions test in a year. Any and all opinions are greatly appreciated. Also, anyone in San Diego like to work on these puppies? I want to install an intercooler and some suspension, but don't know anyone that likes to work on cars to lend a hand and expertise. I see a few sweet rides from time to time, but not all that often in northcounty where I live. I don't think I have run in to a single modded a4 at a stop in the last 2 years, maybe I'm just unlucky.

As far as I know you will have to put the cat back for testing time unless you can find a shady smog tech who will pass you. I have yet to have to smog mine and I am not looking forward to it.

There are plenty of "shady" smog techs willing to pass people with no cats, ask your local tuner shop, theyll probably know of a guy.

A "shady" guy could look the other way and pass you on visual and the Readiness assuming you don't have a CEL on. Since my car is Frotntrak, it will have to be Dynoed under load. WIll it pass the Sniffer? I don't think that information can be flubbed, I could be wrong though.

Put the cat back on, reset your CEL and run 40-60 miles for ECU to go into ready mode or you will fail. Trust me I just went through it.

They can also attach another car to the sniffer. I mean... what?

I'm in the same boat. I put my t.p. on right after getting smog'd. I did the work myself, and I can tell you it will be worth the extra money to pay a "shaddy" smog tech to pass me, rather than putting that beast back on. Getting the cat off was hell. Any local tuner will have a hook up.

    Re: Socalers w/Testpipes??

    Word, guys-

THX for the info. I have to get smogged in Feb, so until then, I will wait on the TP. The day after the smog its game on for the test pipe and k04. How bad were the bolts to get the cat off? Was it a PITA even with an impact gun? Thx for all the input.
