Stage 3 B6 to S6 AVANT

I just wanted to say that my new BABY has arrived. my wife and I had our son in Aug 07. Ever since then we've been thinking about the future and planning for another one, we decided that we needed a bigger car. Not that big tho because she already has a Range Rover, which jsut SUCKS gass like nothing Ive ever driven before. So I decided to look into avants to stay within the Audi family that I have grown to love over the past 5 years. I looked at the A4/S4 avants for the cargo space in the back and the nimbleness, but my wife was insistent about the lack of space in the back seat. So the next logical choice was the A6. Figuring that I really wanted power off the bat with out putting in too much time for modding like my APR Stage 3+ B6, I decided to look into S6s. I also, for the life of me, could not find a 2.7T avant. I dont know if they ever made those in the C5 body (which I preferred and also found to be more in my budget - back to the whole thinking about the future deal). So I finally settled on a 2002 S6 avant, black on black. Anyways, here are some pics of my new BABY. Hope you guys enjoy and I look to learning more about this beast from you guys!

Very nice! I went the other way (C5 S6 to a stage 3 Avant) but I definitely miss the S6 on occasion. The car looks good already, so I'm interested to see what else you'll do to it.

The Allroad came with the 2.7tt, and you can even find 6MT's every once in awhile. Who knows, maybe if you get bored??

thanks guys. I have a couple of things planned - like a full OEM RS6 conversion. But that will have to wait until funds are available (tax return maybe?? or if i win my fantasy football league). Or if my vegas trip in Sept comes up like i usually do, then its on! Im looking to get a new set of wheels as well.

its a shame there are no options for the S6 software other than MTM.

yes it is thirsty and its hard not to mash the gas pedal when i am driving it ... but no matter what, the range rover, IMO, sucks more gas than the S6

Yeah, i would have loved to get a s6. But i wanted the manual. I thought all s6s were autos i think. Allroads have 2.7s and 6 speeds. Impossible to find a manual a6, let alone a avant. I would keep the s6 though, you will love it.

Allroads had some suspension problems you dont wanna deal with.

congrats on the Avant as well - you'll love the versatility, and the extra room (compared to the B6).
my kids love taking trips in the Avant, more so than in the other cars. it's like the ultimate napping machine.

to be honest, i like it a lot better than any suspension i ever had in my B6 a4 - its comfortable. but i live in San Francisco, so driving it here is hell on any car. i honestly thought it would be worse than it is, and was very surprised when it was smoother than i expected it. There is probably an inch gap between the tire and the body (front). These will actually allow you to drop it another 1.5 inches or so. Pretty much will let you slam it. I dont know if you can drive that anywhere, but im pretty sure it will allow you to do it.

tire size also makes a huge difference in ride quality. I have 265 30 ZR 19 on the car now, and I have never driven on 30 size tires. So i must say, if i got bigger tires, it would make it a lot more comfortable.

BUT in terms of fwy driving, I love the ride and the control. It is pretty frieking smooth and the looks cant be beat!!

Im glad to see you are still around. You probably dont remember me but i met you in LA when you still had your B6 Ming Blue sedan. I remember because we were one of three with a Ming Blue sedan in LA. The other being Mehran (MSAR).

So I see you still have the S4 Avant. I was insanely jealous when you pulled the trigger to switch from the sedan to the avant!

And yes, the RS6 conversion is in the works, but I jsut have to get the finds in order. I found out quickly that it is NOT cheap!!!!

Yes - I know. I want the clear corner mod as well. Unfortunately I am not that confident in my skills to do the clear corner mod myself, nor do I have the tools. Anyone in the Bay area want to help me out???

Whats a VF blower???? Anyone???

VF Engineering makes supercharger kits & turbo upgrade kits for German cars. They currently have kits for BMWs, Porsche, and VW - turbo upgrades for Audi. http://www.vf-engineering.com/ As soon as my GTI's warranty runs out - I'd like to get their RSS-20 kit

I have a stage 1 kit on my M3 - the kits they produce are top notch. Power gains are pretty good for the boost pressure that the blowers produce, and are reliable.
They employ programming from GIAC. I have seen dyno graphs of 300-309HP @ the rear wheels, on pump gas @ 6psi of boost.

The kit looks like it belongs under the hood of my M3 (IMO), and as if it came from the factory with force induction:

How realiable are the C5 S6? Been thinking about getting into an avant again. The B8 A4 Avant are just way too overpriced at $40K+ when optioned out. I want to get into either a B5 S4 Avant or a C5 S6 Avant.

The 4.2 is pretty reliable. There are a few threads on reliability in the A6/S6/AllRoad forums.

Either way, I see you are in the Bay Area, there are a couple of options for you (if they are still around) for the B5 S4 avant or the C5 S6 avant. Hit me up if you have any specific questions about the car, or my recent search.

Take a look at the LLTek conversions for the front end as well. That's what I wanted to do to mine to update the front end look. I also swapped tail lights for the older, all red ones from an A6 Avant. Bolted right up. Take a look at the pics in my ad to see how they look-no more orangey blinkers in the top section!
