    Cost to repair

So I called up TyrolSports in Ridgewood queens to ask what they will charge to replace my clutch. $900.00

At the same time they'll charge me an extra 45 bucks to change my LF axle.
Of course i have to provide the parts.

Does 900.00 sound to high? It definitely does to me but, i'd rather pay extra to know the job is being done right vs taking it to your average shop. Anyone got any work done over at this TyrolSport shop?

    Re: Cost to repair

$900 for just labor to do a clutch job is way too high. Thats basically 9 hrs at $100/hr.

    Re: Cost to repair

I dont even know how to replace a clutch and I know it doesnt cost 900.00 bucks.

Do I really need to take it to an AUDI "specialist" to get this done?
Swapping a clutch and changing an axle isnt all that difficult IMO. Our new landlord has a mechanic shop and I was contemplating taking it to him since I cant drive to Elmont. This guy is like 1/2 a mile away from me. I just never seen any german cars being worked on in there to give me that comfort that they know what they are doing.

yeah, what sucks is that im limited to where I can take it.
There are a couple of audi specialists around me but they charge an arm and a leg.
Once of them only takes cash payment. sorry but im walking around with 900 bucks on me.
I'd rather put it on my CC and pay it off when I get the bill.
Instead of driving it i'll just tow it from my home to perhaps RAP Tuning.
My brother has to call me back about that.

    Re: Cost to repair

ok,... I signed up for AAA and im going to get it towed to my brothers shop which is approx. 9.52 miles away.

I get the first 3 miles free but i have to pay 4.50 each additional mile. Which isnt bad at all.

Wow. You only get the first three miles free. Must be a New York thing. I think I get 20-30 free on my AAA membership.

Check again. It's the first 3 miles free and a varied rate for each mile after.

Unless you have a AAA Plus account, where it's 100 miles free + rate for each mile after.

I have Premier which includes 1 free 200 mile tow a year and basically anything up to 100 miles on any of the others.

BTW your link just ends up going to their main page. Here is a link to them listed on the CA site

    Re: Cost to repair

I think I do have the AAA+ account. I won't live without a AAA membership. I've been away on business trips and the wife's car breaks down. No problem just call AAA and they dispatch a tow truck to take it home. No having to search for a tow truck company number in an unfamiliar area.

    Re: Cost to repair

ok, at the shop now. Tow truck came from when i called in about 40 minutes.
Long story short clutch is N/G.

Im going to go with the OE clutch. I dont plan on chipping or supercharging my car.
Its fine the way it is.
179.00 at his cost and hopefully the labor wont be tooooooo much.

I was able to drive the car onto the flatbed from a steep angle. I did however, smell something burning which was the clutch I guess.

    Re: Cost to repair

ok so far here are the problems:

Clutch, flywheel needs to be replaced.

    Clutch - Luk - 179
    OEM DMFW - 429
Axle LF - my brother has to get back to me
    o2 sensor - Bank 1 sensor 2 = not sure yet
gonna buy coolant sensor and change it myself - 15 bucks

    Labor- 400-500.
    will know tomorrow

    = (
96k miles out of stock FW and clutch. Is that good?
I dont drive the car hard at all btw. I shift no later than 2500rpms too.
So not sure how these things burnt out.
