Air Plenum recall?

My car is at VW right now getting an alignment and the service guy mentioned it needs this recall done (but I have to take it to Audi). What is this all about? I dont figure its serious, just curious. The VW guy didnt give me details, probably because he didnt know...they all had that typical stealership mentality. In fact, when I called to make an appointment the guy on the phone said the alignment would be $89.99, but they are charging me $99.99. When I told him his appointment person told me $89, he just said "well, sorry...its $99." I didnt feel like arguing (thats best kept for AFTER the work is done), plus its still about $50 cheaper then Audi charges.

i think the recall he's talking about is the "free timing belt inspection" that an audi dealership is supposed to do for you.

^I've read about that one on here, but didnt think "Air Plenum" had anything to do with it. Oh well, I'll take it to Audi to find out for sure.

I haven't herd anything about an air plenum recall....

The plenum recall regards two drains in the space between the firewall and engine compartment where the ECU and battery reside. These drains get clogged up, and in serious cases the standing water will adversely affect the brake booster. I just had my brake booster replaced on Audis tab due to this very same issue.

The plenum recall itself only takes about 20 minutes to perform.

is this for all B6s? i haven't got a notice in the mail yet about this.

There are several recalls out for B6 A4's, best bet is to call the dealership, give them your VIN, and have them look it up.

OP, if you were quoted $89 when you called, they should only be charging you $89. I would argue it all the way. We have misquotes at times, and we always try to do right by the customer. It's called "service" for a reason.

I didn't receive anything in the mail about this one either, I was picking up fluids at the dealer and had them run the VIN just to see what was out on my particular car. As the previous couple posters mentioned, just call them up and give them your VIN, they'll tell you what is due for your car.

I still need to do that. Got so many letters in the mail telling me I need to make an appointment for it.

Maybe I'll do that next week and have them do an alignment while they are at it. What do you think the dealership will charge for tire mounting and balancing? I don't have time next week to go to 3 different places for this work.

^4 tire mount and balancing on my 19s with 45 series tires was $90 at Disount Tire so you can use that as starter. Audi stealerships, figure 30% over that.

Just called a local Honda dealership. They came highly recommended and I just called. $100 for mount and balance and $80 for 4-wheel alignment. Average prices if you will. I'm sure the Audi dealer will be twice that. I hate my local Audi dealer.
