Best way to get power from a 1.8TQ

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I have a friend who bought a 05 A4 1.8TQ.. Its Automatic with Tip, and we just finished putting in some Magnaflows. He wants though the turbo to kick in eariler like at 2-3rpms... Only problem stopping us from really working on the car is the warranty he has with Audi..

What are the best things that wont break a 17yr olds piggy and wont void warranty

    THanks

Alot of times if you are up front, they tend to look the other way. Hell, my service advisor recommended and introduced me to my tuner!

Pretty much anything will void your warranty, including the ECU flash, but I think some people manage to hide that somehow. Anyway if you do get the 1+ its real nice over stock, I have it, and as far as the injectors go, definitely get them from manguyen, or there are some even cheaper in the classifieds right now. I didnt wanna wait for shipping on them from manguyen stupidly and paid $500+tax at the APR dealer instead of $340 shipped. Real bad move on my part. Anyway yea that warranty will be a big pain in the ass so you gotta decide about that. I havent had an audi in the early mileage but i would guess there shouldnt be too much maintenance incase you wanna go ahead and avoid it. Only thing I could think you would want it for is a timing belt job which gets real expensive sometimes. Dont quote me, there could be other things but like i said, not much.

    From APR:

    http://goapr.com/Audi/support/chip_tuning_faqs.html

Remember, the Magnuson-Moss Act, the warrantor has the burden of proving that the mod has damaged the car to void the warranty. Which may be easy, simply put, it wasn't intended or designed to run with that much power...luckily APR is stealth and can not be detected by VAG tools.

Re: Best way to get power from a 1.8TQ

Like has been stated above a stage 1 or 1+ chip/flash will give you the most bang for the buck (about $500 or so for stg 1).

I kind of started slow on the mods on my 1.8t and if your friend wants faster/sooner spooling on the turbo an intake, test pipe and full exhaust will def help it spool (I just recently did an AWE exhaust); but it's going to cost you (those 3 items new are about $1500 on average).

Oh and check the diverter valve, even on a stock car they can go bad. I know from experience that w/ a blown one or using the wrong strength spring in an aftermarket one, it will effect how soon the trubo spools and it's power delivery. I remeber on my car stock I could feel the trubo kick in around 2k rpms. If you don't feel the turbo kick in till 3-4k, then somethings up...heck the stock turbo is running out of breath at 4-5k.

Re: Best way to get power from a 1.8TQ

I keep wondering how BMW gets away with voiding the warranty for every little thing, in spite of Mag-Moss. Heck, they'd probably void the warranty for putting coins in an ashtray. :) In the gauge business, we have to make things completely reversible for those folks.

Back to the thread though, how come I don't see some types of mods for our cars that other cars find favorable -- underdrive pulleys, port/polish/bigger intake, cams...? I would think some of those would be better bang for the buck between chipping and BT. Or are those parts well optimized already?
    Audios,

people do port/polish get cams... you just won't see any gains that make the price worth it unless you're BAT. underdrive pulleys are, and always have been a load of crap IMO... not worth it, potentially harmful to the car. and our stock air box is about as good as it gets until you go BAT and can run MAFless (like me ) and you just stick a HKS filter on the end of your turbo

and LOL @ faster spool... it's a k03. that's as fast as it gets.
