6MT owners - Armrest in the way?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So whoelse (6MT) finds the center armrest is in the way when pulling the parking brake every single time? I just don't even bother to even let the armrest down now...

How do you deal with this?

    Thanks.

Re: 6MT owners - Armrest in the way?

Ya the armrest is in the way of the parking brake, but then again its only in the way when you are parking or parked, unless you are doing ebrake turns. So, doesn't really bother me, used to think about it a little when the car was new, but not anymore.

Re: 6MT owners - Armrest in the way?

i think i tend to sit lower, so the armrest is in my way when i shift. unless i'm on the highway, it stays up and out of the way. try moving your seat higher?

Re: 6MT owners - Armrest in the way?

I have the armrest at the lowest position and can still hit the first notch with the parking brake which is enough to hold everything but the steepest of hills I've found, and I leave it in gear anyways.

Re: 6MT owners - Armrest in the way?

yeah, it's in the way. Oh well...only need the parking brake when parking..I'll just let the brake hit the armrest up and I get out of the car. Back in the car, I'll put the armrest all the way down, since it's comfortable for me in my specific driving position.

btw, I still want my car in one of your photoshoots!

Re: 6MT owners - Armrest in the way?

I DID have the same problem as you, however i use that little storage area under the armrest to store my Oakley M-frames ... the protective case for those is freakin HUGE! so i lower my armrest until they rest on the case.. this gimes me about 3 to 4 clicks on the e-brake and still a comfortable level to shift.

It is weird but I think that if they took out the cupholders in the center armrest it could have been better. Especially considering a coffee in them would just be elbowed all over the interior anyway.

I cant believe some of you actually drive the 6MT with that thing down.
I dont move that down unless I am cleaning the interior. No way I could shift with the armrest in my way.

Re: 6MT owners - Armrest in the way?

I have an A4, but we have the same interior save for yall's amazing seats and gauges... I always keep my armrest up when driving. As a few others have said, it only comes down when on a long cruise on the highway in 6th gear. I always have to slap passengers' wrists when they try to sneak it down while I'm driving. I can't comfortably shift with it down!! And the parking break causes even more problems.

Re: 6MT owners - Armrest in the way?

Normally I would try and remove all luxuries that I don't really need and just enjoy the driving experience itself, but as of late I've been trying to get more comfortable, aka not sitting so straight up, and of course, leaving the armrest all the way down. While it's not exactly great for shifting, it is more comfortable in general. When I'm driving strictly for the pleasure of driving though, it's always up. The only real problem I have with it is if I do pull the e-brake up while the armrest is down, it peels away at the rubber on the e-brake a little bit, and also at the bottom of the armrest. I think that might be more of an '04 problem though, because I have lots of peeling going on in my interior. But, point is, generally I drive with it down now so I can be a little more comfortable .

It's not in the way for me for daily driving but i don't have a SS kit on the B7. On the track on my B5 with a SS kit I have to lift it all the way back and out of the way.

6'7 and it's not in the way at all. In fact, if I have it up, I think my elbow hits it shifting to 2nd/4th/6th... haha.

I keep it pretty low and rest my arm on it while I shift. Works nicely for me. I'm short and fat. Does that make any difference?

I don't have any problem with it when driving. It's a little awkward when parking, but it only seemed that way when I first bought it. Mine is down all the time, tilted slightly downward (not level).

Your arms must be the size of tree trunks. I can't imagine a situation where it prevents someone from shifting.

Anyways, mine is down all the time. I have it like one or two clicks from the lowest position which helps with the ebrake. It's clearly not an optimal design.

Install a set of S4 Recaros and the side bolster gets in the way of using the armrest so your problem will be solved.
