    Question Snow Tire Fit Question

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Will 225 45 18 snow tires work on the OEM 2008 18" S-line rims with the s-line sport suspension? The recommended size is 235 40 18.

    Thanks for the help!

Tire will fit wheel, but would need your GAWR to see if it can carry enough weight.

Thanks! Good start. They are Pirelli Winter 240 SnowSport going on a 2008 A4 Avant. Will that help clarify at all?

The recommended size for your vehicle is a 235/40/18 with XL load rating due to the weight of your vehicle. I probably wouldn't go with those 225's.

    Re: Snow Tire Fit Question

GAWR for the front is 2,634 lbs, and the XL 225/45R18 will carry over 1,500 max, so that will be fine at 35 PSI. The tire is a little taller than we could guarantee to fit without the possibility of rubbing (like if the spring is fully compressed).

I see you want the narrower tires (for the added "traction" in the white stuff)...

Another option to consider is getting a minus-size wheel/tire package (and add on the TPMS sensors)---you can keep the S-line wheels looking newer longer.

May want to double check with TireRack or someone else if the 16" steel wheels from the 2006+ Passat clears, as a 215/55r16 snow tire would be a viable option

Update: Thanks for the help. I bought a nice used set of 17" anthricite AT Italias (?) with 235-45-17 Dunlop Winter Sport M3 instead.
