Thinking About Purchasing a 07 Q7 Want To Know If There Are Any Known Problems

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I am thinking of purchasing a 2007 Q7, however I am a bit concerned about purchasing the 07 model since it was the first year released. Have there been any problems to justify purchasing an 08 (instead of the 07 model)? I have yet to decide if I'll get the V6 or V8 models. So long story short: any serious common issues with the 07 models

I am debating between a 07 Q7 or a 07 Range Rover. Anyone care to compare?

    Thanks!

Any details about the two on Edmunds.com? I personally haven't heard anything bad about the Q7. Range Rovers on the other hand...

Haha you're considering a Range Rover and you're worried about the Q7's reliability?

I have an '08 and no major issues so far. The key fob does not work all the time, but it's minor.

Re: Thinking About Purchasing a 07 Q7 Want To Know If There Are Any Known Problems

My one biggest issue was a large amount of oil leak which was traced to a bolt. Service center had it for more than 1 week due to the part was shipped from Germany.

A minor issue was the ipod connectivity is not possible for prior November 2006 made Q7 with MMI. If you want to play your ipod and make the most of your Bose sound system, then be ready to shell out 400+ USD for a denison gateway 500.

    Everything else is fine.
Hope this help you. Good luck.

Re: Thinking About Purchasing a 07 Q7 Want To Know If There Are Any Known Problems

    Bought a V8 in February 07.

    Total lemon.

Crack in lower block - warranty replaced but still burns coolant.

Same Oil-Leak as the guy above, but with a longer wait for the bolt - warrantied, but the Vancouver area dealer had the car for over a month.

Leaking sunroof shorts out main amp and fusebox - major warranty issue, but no recall - again: covered by warranty but dealer has had the car for 2 months and will likely do so again soon. We don't have the 1-month rule in Canada, which coincides with the US "Lemon-Law". It's a keeper!

Moisture infiltrates other fuse panel (there are multiple panels) and wiring harness connectors resulting in full shut-down of MMI, driver displays, headlights and most other systems in the car - all while cruising at highway speeds at night in the rain. Read: death-trap.

Occasionally, the car will start but the air springs won't inflate, so it drives around on the bottom-out bumpers at the base of the shock tower.

iPod upgrade mentioned above works well if you can devote all of your attention to navigating it through the MMI - that is, if the MMI works.

I put my A4 back on the road to supplement the short-comings of this (the most unreliable vehicle in the history of my every family member, co-worker, and friend) lunar-module of a car.

Other than for that it's great!

update. Dealership STILL have the Q7, day 4. They have no clue what is going on but the timing is off again. They are going to replace the timing belt (not sure what that will do). This is the second time with the same problem. 3rd time is lemon law time....I'll update when we get the truck back.

Re: Thinking About Purchasing a 07 Q7 Want To Know If There Are Any Known Problems

I have had my 09 3.6 Q7 for about 8 weeks and it has been back to the shop 3 times now with the engine mis-firing. They thought they had it fixed with a leaky fuel injector, but since that has been replaced it has happened again. The last time all they did was clean and flush the fuel injectors - on a car with 1200 miles! They can't really seem to nail the cause.

haha you'll be driving the range rover to the dealership service department more than you will be driving it anywhere else.

Re: Thinking About Purchasing a 07 Q7 Want To Know If There Are Any Known Problems

Same Mis-firing Issue. My wife has a 2007 Q7. It has been in twice for the same reason, this time the dealership had it for 2 weeks! Problem both times summary: check engine light goes on, car has limited acceleration (basically you can floor the gas, motor revs high with no pick up). Q would work if you babied the gas petal and I could get it to speed. 1st time to the dealership they replaced (Ignition Coils I recall). 2nd time they found a bulletin # 2016008 (have no clue) and to call tech line. They removed the engine, changed oil pump/bolt/filter/cooler, timing chain, tensioners, gaskets, fluids and other items. They never really did explain what the heck the problem was. I will say the Dealership was AWESOME! Issue I have is my wife is concerned its going to happen a 3rd time and wants to go look at new SUV's

Re: Thinking About Purchasing a 07 Q7 Want To Know If There Are Any Known Problems

No issues with our 4.2 07 Q7. We had one of the first ones out there. We also had the first one with painted lowers in the country if I'm not mistaken (painted out of the factory ftw)

Anyways. It's been running solid. I just need to reset the MMI because side assist doesn't work. That's about it.

Re: Thinking About Purchasing a 07 Q7 Want To Know If There Are Any Known Problems

We are trading in our 3.6 and getting the 4.2 which is bulletproof. I think the first year 3.6 motor is the cause, I have been IM'ed by 7 others with the same issue and all had the 3.6 liter motor. Staying Audi but going 4.2.

You're crazy to consider a Range Rover. The dealership is owned by the same people that own the Porsche dealership and there's usually an overflow of Rovers taking up Porsche bays, the technicians are always bitching about them, and the Q7 is simply a nicer car in my opinion :)

Forget about the Range Rover, get a Q7 or consider a 2006+ Cayenne, they're really cheap lately and very nice to drive.

By the way Side Assist didn't work because I had the button turned off :). So no problems with the car for awhile now. It's solid.

Re: Thinking About Purchasing a 07 Q7 Want To Know If There Are Any Known Problems

I had to post this for the poor soul considering a Rover.
I just SOLD the problem 3.6 Q7 this week and just bought a 2007 4.2 Q7 certified. My wife wanted the Rover also, even with the MAJOR problem I had with my Q7 I could not get myself to buy my wife a Rover. I told her to get over the BS United States obsession with "Image and hanging with the Joneses" and tell me why the Rover is a better car, after 1 week she could not come up with one beside "it looks nice". I told her if she is so concerned with image let me buy her another Audi and a nice "rack" to go along with it, she laughed, we bought the Audi and the "rack" comment may cost me oneday.
Atleast we won't have a Piece of Crap Rover in the garage!

Re: Thinking About Purchasing a 07 Q7 Want To Know If There Are Any Known Problems

We have had our 3.6 Premium for almost 3 yrs (one of the first 3.6 avail in our area). The Q7 has had only one problem in 34K miles. At 1200 miles, a misfire was diagnosed and one new fuel injector was replaced. Other than that SINGLE issue, the Q has been perfect. Just returned from a 12 hr trip to the black hills w/ a total of 6 people and full of luggage. Averaged approx. 21mpg at 80-85mph. A truely awsome highway and family cruiser. I would HIGHLY recommend a Q to anyone....

I bought a 3.6L, 2008 last October. It now has 10K miles on it and I haven't had a single problem with it.

    It has been pure bliss.
