So my clutch is toast... Help please.

Well today my car has become barely drivable b/c of the extreme clutch slippage. Money is tight but it seems like I won't be able to go much longer..

Obviously I would like to get the Southbend clutch, but I dont think i can afford the $650 for just the clutch.

So what all do I need to buy, if I want to replace the clutch?

Obviously the clutch, and my local performance shop said:

"You will need: Disc, Pressure plate, throw out bearing."

Do all places re-surface flywheels, or will I have to buy a new one?

    Does this sound right?

They also quoted me at a flat rate of $699 for install.

Please share your opinions and what nots, along with any links to the products I should use.

    Thanks

Call up southbend on the phone, their website is kind of hard to understand imo. Just ask them what you need and tell what you have to spend. You already know you need the Clutch Disc, Pressure Plate, Throw out bearing, and in my thread a couple days ago about a new clutch, alot of people recommended a new pilot bearing. You can get it from the dealership for $25.

Do a search man, there's been a ton of clutch info discussed recently. Go with the OFE HD clutch ($450) instead of the OFE SS ($650). The HD will hold quite a bit more power than your stock clutch, and retains the stock feel. I personally wanted a stiffer clutch than stock but financially I couldn't get an SS either. Southbend actually hooked me up with an upgraded HD clutch that came with an SS pressure plate and whatnot, so it's supposedly still a Stage III clutch just with a stock feel to it.

I did search, I wasn't questioning what clutch to get so much as to what all I need.

$700 to install + $600 for the clutch?

Too bad you cant DIY your own clutch, and save yourself $700....

Go to the Auto-Hobby shop on DM there, and ask'm if they can do clutch's?

Last time I was @ DM, I helped a guy change his clutch in 6 hours using their lift and tools.

I was in your position, but I split the difference and went with SB OFE HD, feels like stock (actually it feels lighter than stock). I don't have any real power to lay on it yet but, I was thinking I my go GTRS eliminator and dial the power back some. I went with KMDtuning for $450 shipped. My shop quoted me $650, but it came out to $566 including the pilot bearing.

i got some friendly advice... do it right and do it once... if you are even considering ever putting more power to it... get the FE SS for a few extra bucks and be done with it... i know its hard sometimes but it seems like everytime i cheap out, i end up spending 2x the money in the long run
