car in shope with entire engine out 3 days after purchasing!

so three days into s4 ownership a bolt snaps and shoots off into the engine. cars stops and i have it towed back to the dealership and I am told there is a 50/50 shot that the rods are bent ( i think thtas what she said) mind you i'm kinda distrought at this point so i can't quote 100%. so i go back in to find out whats is going on and hear that the valves need to be replaced or something to that effect so now i'm waiting for it to get fixed by the dealership since this all happened so soon....

not sure what to expect for when i get the car back

i took pics of the car in the shop and i'll get those up soon

anybody ever have something like this happen and any advice would be greatly appreciated...thanks in advance....signed one distrought audi owner!

wow at first reading the post title I thought you are doing a turbo swap aleady. Wow hope you bought a warranty or if the shop is covering the costs

Yes that would put me into shock as well.

It sounds like you bought it from a dealer, since this happened 4 days after buying it, most dealers have a 30 day warranty so I would think it should be all covered by the dealer for free. I really hope for your sake.


You said a bolt snapped and it died. Like someone says it sounds like the timing belt snapped and killed the engine, then this would def bend the valves unless you were just idling at the time, (and even then it would probably bend the valves)

To fix this they have to pull the heads and rebuild the heads with the bent valves. How the valves get bent, if you dont know, is when the timing belt breaks, the valves stop or get out of sync with the cylinders so then it causes a cylinder or two or three hit a valve when it goes up and down. It could cause damage to the piston but I think it causes more damage to the valves so that might not be an issue.

Either way I really hope its covered under warranty otherwise you are looking at spending major moola.

A local guy did his own timing belt job and lost a bolt during the install- turns out it was somewhere in his lower covers, cause 2 days later it went through the timing gear down at the bottom and the car threw the belt- he found the bolt when he pulled the motor to do th e heads. *doh*

You should be o.k. being the dealership is doing it. but same happened to me and the car drives good for now just can't figure out these boost leaks.

Make sure they do a thorough inspection of the turbos. The same thing happened to me a few years back. The dealership replaced the engine but neglected to inspect the turbos. After they put it all back together, they discovered that driver's side turbo was also shot. Engine pull X2.

x2. there should be no reason they wouldn't do this for you. ask them to swap k04s and add on the cost of just doing 2 turbos, which should be 2hr MAX. its worth it if you EVER plan to go stage 3

you guys are more optimistic then me...... i soooooo wish i could but i don't have the cash to kick out for k04's right now... unless someone knows somebody selling a kit or just the k04's who's willing to work out a deal ...otherwise i gotta wait

Ask the dealer to check the turbo's. If they are gone, too, perhaps you can work that out with them.

Check the classifieds for downpipes.
