Need advice on replacing Coil Pack Connectors

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I changed the plugs on my B6 S4 today and noticed that the release tabs on some of the connectors to the coil packs were broken off. I was able to get most of them loose, but broke one of the covers to the release tab off completely (second photo).

Can these connectors be replaced individually or do I need to replace the whole bank? Also, is this a DIY or am I at the mercy of the dealer? I'm taking it in for an oil change (45K) but I'd rather avoid having them work on the coil pack connectors if it's something I can do myself. Also, any suggestions on where to get them is appreciated.

Ha! I broke one of them too doing my sparkplugs. I kind of let anger get the best of me.

Give these guys a call and ask about it, they have pretty good prices. http://www.genuinevwaudiparts.com/pa...?siteid=214407

LOL my anger won out as well. I broke the clip on one of my packs. It it cosmetically doesn't bother you I have seen no reason to change them. With the torx screws in and a proper connection I found it to be quite difficult for the sleeve to come down. So on my car I left it alone. IMHO you are going to do more damage to the wires splicing in the new connector then just leaving it alone

Yeah... those connectors are super finicky. I had to baby mine to keep from cracking one.

I kind of thought the same thing; considering what a PITA it was to get them off when I wanted to I doubt they will come loose with the torx screws there.

Good point about splicing the new connectors in - I'm thinking that unless I can replace the entire bank with minimal effort and moderate cost I'm going to leave them "as is".

That said, I'd like to hear from someone who has replaced them if you're out there!
