New to S4's have some questions for you all.

    Hey fellas,

Just traded my 2004 A4 1.8T for a 2000 S4 and was hoping you guys could answer a few questins for me.

The S4 I have now has GIAC software and neuspeed exhaust. I am looking to give the car a little more of a growl and was wondering if an intake will give me that.

On my old 1.8T I had a Forge DV and a carbonio intake and I personally loved the noise it made during shifts. ( I realize not everyone likes this, but I do )

So I guess my main question is what kind of intakes do you guys put on your cars? Just K&N filters? or is there a nice car specific intake like carbonio?

Next, will this car with 2 DV's and an intake make a similar noise that my 1.8T did during shifts? Seems like you hardly hear the turbos in this car.

I've done a little reading on this KO4 swap tat people do and was just wondering how much more power one can expect from just upgrading the turbos and nothing else (unless there are things that are required for the swap).

Sorry to ask so much all at once, i'm just so excited about my new car.

Oh crap one more question, when purchasing the car, there was 2 little drops of wet spots just below the turbo I assume oil from the turbo? I managed to get $2000 off the original deal, which is enough to get me another turbo anyway. But how much longer can I expect this thing to last?

    Thanks for your time

Re: New to S4's have some questions for you all.

Your best bet is to use stock intake and do what we call DARINTAKE mod.

If you want to hear the turbo's more do piggies/downpipes.

How many miles on the car?

Hard to tell how long the turbo's will last, but with 2,000 def get K04's

    And you need a drop.

depends how well the turbos were taken care of and how well you take care of them, and how many miles are on the car

Re: New to S4's have some questions for you all.

As the previous poster indicated, the Darintake mod is quite popular. Additionally, the X-1/SDR Research Intake has proven quite nice, and is popular with people who upgrade turbochargers. It's a custom Carbon Fiber/Fiberglass Intake which seals against the bottom of the hood, and contains an AEM Dryflow element, which does not require K&N style oiling that can damage your MAF.

You'll probably want to take your car and have it looked at my a good independent Audi tech. If your turbos are leaking oil directly, it's quite likely that they won't last long. Start saving for K04s or better. (Turbo replacement requires and engine pull, and substantially more cost than the A4 work.)

    Good luck!

Re: New to S4's have some questions for you all.

that red is the brightest i've ever seen... looks good.
first of all, do a little searching, everything you've asked has been asked soooo many times. The FAQ and DV stickies are very helpful when it coems to your questions.
but anyways, 2 grand should cover some maintenance for a year (unless you do your own).. save up for the big blow, and for some k04s, or bigger :).

say no to the intake. they are too expensive and perform no positive function on the car. Darintake will suit your needs.

As far as DVs, get whatever you want, they do the same thing. coming from an a4 you must know how BOVs are bad.

Downpipes or piggies are pretty much necessary.

good luck with this car man... you'll need it

Re: New to S4's have some questions for you all.

K04s can get you anywhere from low 400s to high 400s chp. And right around 500 on race gas.
I feel mine on k04s, fueling, and the rest of my mods feels right around 450+.

K04s are the most easy stage 3 turbos to go with for tuning and less modification wise. Not the fastest stage 3, but good enough to hang with $150,000+ performance cars.

Re: New to S4's have some questions for you all.

    Thanks for the responses guys.

The car has 125,000KM on it. The timing belt was changed at 98,000. I hear some people say change it every 60,000KM is this to early?

What is involved in installing these "piggy pipes" does the engine have to come out for these as well?

Also, are downpipes and piggys the same thing? sorry if these are retarded questions. I'm used to vwvortex where the search doesn't work. Sorry about that, i'll search before asking next time.

Re: New to S4's have some questions for you all.

Piggie pipes are taking the stock downpipes out, gutting the warm up cats(the ones that sit behind the turbos) and relocating the secondary O2 sensors behind the main cats so you don't get codes. Some use anti-foulers in the stock secondary O2 bung locations, others cap off the secndary location and reweld new bungs after the main cat. It's one of the harder DIY for this car, in my opinion.

Nice looking car. Just need some coilovers to get rid of the 4x4 look.

I love your rims! and I agree with JungbS4, that is a bright laser red. I usually dont like the laser red look because it comes accross orange in pics,

    but yours looks awsome!

Lol.. I know what you're sayin' man, but my direct sunlight that day was like 13 degrees.

Another quick question for you guys while i'm at the computer... My car has a GIAC chip and a Neuspeed exhaust, I'm pretty sure that all the modifications done to it so far. So does that mean my car is Stage 2?

What kind of power/torque would this thing put out at the crank?

Thanks again fellas, have a good one.
