While driving my 93 S4 two weeks ago I noticed a thin cloud of blue/gray smoke trailing the car. I got home, popped the hood, and noticed fluid all over the firewall, passenger inner fender, back of the engine, and right side of the transmission. A lot of fluid hit the exhaust also, good thing it didn't catch fire! The passenger side steering boot is split right next to the outboard clamp(closest to the pass. fender). I also noticed fluid inside the boot. Is it possible that an internal leak filled the boot causing it to split and spray the engine bay with fluid? Is it time for a new steering rack? Has anyone replaced the rack themselves? If it's not too difficult I'd like to do it because a local Audi dealer wants $1650 just for the rack. I can only imagine the cost of labor.
Also, it's time for the timing belt/water pump to be replaced. How much is that going to cost.
Any help is appreciated.
