Oem sport suspension Sedan vs Avant? Any difference ?

    Hey guys,

I found a really good deal on a sport suspension off an A4 S-line "Sedan" which I plan to install on my a4 avant. Just wanted to know if this should be a straight swap with no complication? Has anyone attempted the upgrade successfully?

BTW, Both cars have identical weight, so im thinking there shouldnt be any difference... right ?

Only difference seems to be slightly stiffer springs rate on the avant.

Interesting... Too bad I cant get the specs on sport springs/shoks OEM sedan vs avant. Dealership only goes be VIN # which doesnt really help me.

I guess the only the way to find out is to fork up the cash for the install. thanks for the info.

Re: Oem sport suspension Sedan vs Avant? Any difference ?

I installed an oem sport suspension from an 07 B7 A4 avant into my 03 B6 A4 avant last weekend. It was a straight swap. I did have to cut down the non-sport bump stops. I shaved 0.75" off the rear ones and 0.25" off the front ones.

When it was all done, the front end is about 0.5" higher than the rear end. I assume this is probably due to the fact that the B7 has a 2.0L engine vs. my 1.8L therefore slightly heavier resulting in a higher spring rate in the front. I'm hoping everything will settle out even. I've only put about 200km on the car since the install.

Going from a sedan to avant sport suspension, you may get more sag in the rear end since the avant is heavier in the ass end. Best thing to do is to verify with the dealer if the part numbers for the avant and sedan rear ends are the same or not.

It's off an S-line 1.8t so the weight up front should be the same. The dealer is pretty useless as he can only help me with a the VIN#. He says there's like 7 different shocks and springs for the A4... Ill just try the install and see what happens. Thanks for the input on the bump stops, ill let my shop figure it out.

Just a little more info on the bump stops, I was going to buy the oem sport ones from the dealer, imagine my surprise when he said it was $64 for the rears and $38 for the fronts....and that's each, not for the pair.

Anyways, if you decide to get the oem ones, here's the part numbers you'll need:

    Front: 8D0 412 131F
    Rear: 4B0 512 131B

What I ended up doing was cutting the required amount off the ends and then used a bench grinder to reshape it, otherwise it's a real PITA to get it to fit back inside the boot.

    Good luck with the install.

Can you post a picture please? I've always been curious about this.

Here's some pics of the Audi with the B7 suspension installed. The front height is 26.5" and the rear is 26".

Looks good, Im curious to see if the suspension off the S-line 1.8 will have the same results. I'm getting it done tomorrow and will post some pics once installed.

BTW, where did you pickup your RS4's and how much ? ive been looking for place in Canada to buy rims at a reasonable price.

Re: Oem sport suspension Sedan vs Avant? Any difference ?

Here is the end result 26" front and 25.5" rear . They fit alright although the front is a little high and suspension doesnt feel that much different from non-sport. Was expecting a much stiffer ride. Could it have anything to do with the bump stops? I kept the non-sport bumps as I did not want to mess around with cutting or reshaping.

I also added a rear RS4 Sway and S-line front sway. Significant difference when taking sharp turns/cornering!
