I also want to scope it out, in case we want to have a MAR cruise sometime this year or next.

Here's the hyperlink to the course that I selected.
    Google Map link of Route
    NEW DETAILS:

    Who: ALL MAR residents
    What: Skyline Drive Run/Picnic
Where: Google Map linked to original planned route(Tentative unless we stay the course and stick with the pre-planned route)
    When: September 7, 2008 (Tentative)
Why: Due to recent events of my broken control arm on my S, I had to cancel this fun drive. However, with Grishbok (John) revitalizing my interest in this drive by suggesting that we do it after our "DIY GTG PT2", I am game and will be taking names and suggestions as to where the start point would be, picnic area setup should be, and blah-blah-blah.

    Names:
    1. Slow4 (John) - unless my control arms, CV boots, rear diff seals aren't on by then
    2. Grishbok (John)
    3. Dub Envy - Probable if event happens
    4. Glassnpower98 (John) - Probable

That's a fun drive. I'm definitely going to run it one more time before winter.

It's been a few years since I've driven Skyline Dr. Isn't the speed limit in the park something like 35 mph?

From what I remember it is, but no one REALLY follows it. Last time I ran through the area was last fall during the leaf changing with my GF. My avg speed through the area was ~45-55mph.

We're going to run it next saturday (8/23), it'll be me and boys (03' Max SE, '06 350Z, '06 Titan SE [not sure why he wants to go], and maybe '06 TSX)

    Re: Skyline Drive run-through

Talked to my boy (who drives the 03 Max) earlier this evening. He suggested that me and him do an early run, roughly 8am...this way, we avoid traffic and just congested roads.

Also, since he wants more people to tag along, the invitiation is invited to any and all MAR residents. Its not going to be an organized event, just a exploratory type run.

    Re: Skyline Drive run-through

I've done the cruise several times when I had a G35 (aka Skyline). I'd advise spending more time on 211, which is a great road. The Dr. in the Park has alot of sightseeing traffic and Park Officers. That said there's a cool tunnel on the Drive that's prime location for auditioning a new exhaust.

I don't have a mile marker for the tunnel, but it's on Skyline Drive itself. Check out the attached vid - it comes up with around 1 minute left in the vid - if that helps locate it by other landmarks along the Dr.

Whats on 211? Is it full of tight turns and curves?

I mapped out what I thought would be lots of turns and scenery.

Wish I could join in the drive, but I have to be in Philly. The area by the park is mountainous with nice roads - even if it might not appear too curvy on a map, there's a good mix of cuves, straights and elevation changes to be had, so take your time and explore.

FWIW have fun but dont go too fast. Every time I drive that road I have to stop at least once for animals that you would definitely not want to hit.

I will be down for this if it's the weekend of the DIY... I also second that we spend some more time on 211. That road is badass, switchbacks up and down the mountain. I came up with another route that is more of a loop so we're not just going up and down skyline drive. I know for a fact that both 211 and 33 are badass roads with lots of twisties and places to snap some shots. I've never been on 647 because I usually take rt 29... but it looks like it could be fun. What do you guys think of this route?

If you have extra time on your hands while you're out there, try to hit the road that connects Paris and Bluemont on your linked map (between Rte 50 and 7). Blue Ridge Mtn Rd is awesome!

Yes it is the day after the DIY, i figure this would be an awesome opportunity to cruise together with the new mods and test out the projects on a nice quiet road with some good places to eat on a sunday afternoon. I should also have my in car camera mount to get some nice video of the group.

This trip should be extra female friendly, lots of nice scenery, good food, relaxing quiet sunday drive.

Sounds good. I'll bring my digital SLR so we can get some pics in the mountains. Also, I'll see if the girlfriend wants to come... She just had surgery though so I'm not sure if she'll want to experience that many lateral G's.

Edit: I'll also bring the valentine one so we can try to avoid some speed traps

Updated the "probable" list of drivers for event.

My control arms are coming in this thursday and I can't wait till Great Falls GTG, so they'll be going on this weekend.

    Re: Skyline Drive run-through

Just drove 211 today but I was driving a tahoe with a trailer full of dirt bikes and atvs. Damn I can't wait to go back in a week with the Audi!

John, I saw you are going to be missing the GTG... Does that mean you're gonna miss the cruise too?

Can anyone get in on this run. I live in Maryland and would like to meet more audiziners in the area?

    Re: Skyline Drive run-through

Yeah, it's open to everyone but we haven't had any updates lately and I know that the OP (Slow4) was talking about bailing on the other GTG the day before this one because he said he's going to NY? So I don't know if he'll be back for this one...

Anyways, I'm definitely still down to do this drive... We just need to find a starting spot and a figure out a meeting time. I'll suggest we meet at the Lifetime gym in Centreville. It's right off 66 and will probably be on the way for everyone (Posted a link for the location below). Also, I think we should meet up around 10 or 11... What do you guys think?
