There are a ton of important electronic signals that pass through your radio, including a very powerful direct current voltage which supplies power to complimentary metal oxide semiconductor devices. When applied, the direct current voltage on a polysilicon transistor will open the current path between the source and drain once the threshold voltage has been exceeded. This action then turns on another connection. Each of these switches used in various configurations form logic operations which control the reception and decoding of frequency modulated signals and the satellite receiver circuitry which decodes the GEO satellite signals.
Enough joking around..
1st... Do not install a single din stereo in an S4, it will look ridiculous! That Alpine will look like crap in your car. Get a double din that fits nicely into the factory position, like a pioneer avic.
If you correctly wire the aftermarket radio, everything will be fine. Obviously if you make a mistake and connect power to ground or something of that nature then you can have some problems. There are several wire harness kits for our car, I believe I've heard some using the Metra kit.
There are other options for satellite, ipod etc. It depends exactly on what your goal is. You may want to try the "search" function at the top of the forum as it will give you a ton of info!

Pioneer Bluetooth adaptor - CDBTB200
Install Harness - Metra PR0180
Trim - There are a few available but to make it look factory, a custom install is prefered.
IPOD cable - CDI200
XM Tuner (Terk) -XM Direct
OR
Sirius Tuner -SIRPNR2
Smart Digital Adaptor - Check with Crutchfield for part numbers. I think there may be an all in one Tuner/Digital Adaptor now.
