    Re: rs4 sway DIY

Yea that is a good DIY. If you don't have the larger brackets, which I did not have, I highly advise using some vice grips on the brackets to get them onto the car. The stock brackets do not fit over the new bushings. It takes some muscle to get this DIY done on your own but it can be done. Oh and getting the new sway in under the vehicle in the proper position is a fun time too!

    Re: rs4 sway DIY

its really not all that bad. i didnt use vice grips, but eventually the stock brackets do fit over the bushings. just takes a bit of patience and a bit of elbow grease.

in all the write-ups i've seen on this, nobody has mentioned anything about greasing up the bushings.....i assume its necessary, is there a specific type of grease to use?

    Re: rs4 sway DIY

+1^^ and right now im actually having trouble with the 16mm on the driver side spinning and not coming out, so i am putting an open end wrench on the opposite side.. just in case someone else runs into this problem... one more question, put the loctite medium on all the bolts?

    Re: rs4 sway DIY

Another tip I've come across while reading is to buy longer bolts. Use those first to tighten the bracket down, then use a vise grip to hold down each side while you replace the longer bolts with the original ones.

I just spread the brackets some and it fit fine. I also had to drop the exhaust a bit to get the old bar out...may be another way but I was tired of fighting it.

    Re: rs4 sway DIY

Once the accessories were off I switched gears to the rear of the car. RS4 rear sway bar install. No photos but I jacked the car up via the rear tow-hook. Then placed some wood under the tires and lowered the car so it was sitting at ride-height (don't have any ramps). I then removed the sway bar end link bolts (16mm socket). I then removed the sway bar bushing brackets (13mm socket and open-end). After about a minute of struggling to remove the sway bar I realized an easier way. Drop the two rear-most exhaust mounts and let the exhaust hang. OEM sport suspension sway bar out and RS4 in. Now the fun part. Getting the bushing clamps ontop of the RS4 bushings and sway. After some force I got the upper bolts in. I then used a pair of vice grips to clamp the lower end to the frame. I could then insert the lower bolt in and then drive both the upper and lower bolts in with the socket and wrench. Then I lowered the car down onto the blocks of wood (my makeshift ramps) and bolted up the end links. Job complete.

    My input /\
I used the OEM A4 bushing brackets and the bushings come pre-lubed.

    Re: rs4 sway DIY

yeah it wasnt too bad i guess.. pain in the NUTS getting the old bar out, and i got one side on with really no problem just a little elbow grease... left the bolts loose, and went to the other side and what a friggin time i had with that lol but hey its done and i can feel the stiffness already, havent really done much cornering yet but i will!!... in the mean time if anyone for some reason wants to buy my stock sway bar let me know

i did this last weekend, and i highly reccomend that you get the upgraded RS4 brackets that accomadate the 22mm bar, it took me about 3 hours a blow torch and a hammer to get the stock (18mm) bracket to tighten over the RS4 bar... just cause i wanted the thing on, only to call the dealer on mon morning and find out that the brackets are only $13 each..

btw i used a4mods instructions and it was a breeze for every other aspect of the removal/ install
