Why would that be illegal? I guess a (valid) front plate is required in your state? Sucks for you. BTW you need a REAL german plate.

around where I live, it's a tough call whether you will get hassled becuase there are a few people that have german registered cars and roll with their german plates. I was behind a 5 series a few weeks ago that had em. (lot of foreign diplomats live around here)
