I had an overheating issue recently and had come to the conclusion that my waterpump had died. So I ordered a timing belt/waterpump/thermostat kit from Euro Technik (AZ advertiser) for only 372 with 2 day shipping. I was planning on having a local mechanic do this for me but being a college student about to start a new year, I couldn't afford it (thanks to Colin for his help/advice anyways). So today I used the DIY and some luck to dive into a very tricky fix. In doing so, I encountered a few obstacles or rather just points of confusion. The DIY didn't mention removing the rest of the hoses from the radiator so I assumed from the picture that removing everything would be ok. I removed the larger hose to the turbo underneath, but above it were two hard lines that used 10mm bolts to fasten them to the radiator. I knew they weren't to the AC but when I removed them, a dark fluid came out of them not like an oil and there wasn't too much of it but I have no idea what it was. Also, I had a huge amount of oil on the front of the engine which I intially thought was my VCG but it seemed like more than what a VCG would normally leak. I just replaced it 4 days before my water pump went out due to this, but upon further inspection, most of the oil seems to be in the vicinity of the head gasket. I didn't find oil in my coolant and I never have any visible exhaust so I don't know if it could just be going bad without the usual symptoms or if in fact my valve cover gasket did leak that much oil. Last thing, I ran out of time/daylight to finish everything and I would just like to know how most people mixed their coolant. I remember reading somewhere it is a 70/30 mix, and I have 2 bottles of g12. Am I going to need both bottles plus 30% water? I figured I would premix it and fill accordingly but does running the motor after a fill change the level? And is the only way of avoiding air pockets to use the breather screw on top of the engine? Anyways, sorry for the long post but it was a very long day trying to get all of this done (7hrs, I know I am slow). So far everyone's advice has been great.
Thanks
