been having trouble starting my 2002 A4 the past few days. but finally today when i went to leave for work the battery was completely dead, i couldn't even unlock my door with the key fob. Can i take my car to an auto parts store so they can see if it is the battery or alternator?

How much to new battery cost from the stealership or should i get an after market one like the optima redtop?

Re: How long are factory batterys food for?... i think mine is down for the count

I'm on my second factory battery, car is a 2001 so 3 and 1/2 years for each one. If I drove the car more often I'm sure they would of fared better.
AWE, GIAC, Stasis,KO4s, bla bla bla this is getting a bit ridiculous. I hope it will end soon.

It also depends on your climate, cooler areas the battery will last much longer. Heat kills!

i have an 02 as well and i had to replace mine last week after coming back from a 2 month trip. it was showing no problems before i left, and was totally dead when i returned (which i expected) but would no longer hold a charge. oh well. kragen had the cheapest one in my area. $95 after tax.

I would like to put a red top in my car but i don't know which one to buy. Optima's website says they don't make one for the A4

There is a height issue, The stock battery is shorter then the Optimas. I think you'll have the trial fit one.

i have the optima red top, works fine!! it's not as wide as oem but the factory bracket holds it down fine, i just put extra velcro on the bottom and it's not going anywhere.

I knew it was one or the other, in that case I think I put a piece of rubber hose between the bracket and the battery.

If you're a CPO/warranty situation, Audi might replace it for you.
