Is it a good idea to buy a HUMMER H2 or a SRT10 Ram?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So HUMMERS right now are super cheap... I mean you can easily argue 10k off the stick price no sweat. I got a guy wanting to sell me a 2005 H2 adventure fully loaded with everything (navi, spot lights, towing pkg, 3rd row, 3 tv's, etc) for 20k! The car only has 30k and only one owner..
    -OR-
2005 Dodge Ram SRT Viper Powered (10 cyl) one owner 26k MINT, only for 25k, after 12,600$ savings (from carmax)

    My dad and I have been debating whether it is a good idea to purchase a big gas guzzler like these and keeping them until the economy gets better or gas gets cheaper, until people start to want them again. Once the demand for these comes back I would sell it and either;
A.) walk away even (selling it for the price I paid)
    B.) making a profit.

    - My dad believes it is a bad idea, and that I would only purchase a vechile like this for personal enjoyment and basically spend every penny I make into it, until I sell it for a low price, because people will never want a car like this.

    - I believe that once the economy gets better and gas decreases slightly the demand for these will increase and people will want to buy them. When that does happen I will sell and walk away a happy man. I believe that when people (rich ppl in particular) start getting some extra $$$ in there pockets, they will want a car like this ( that is limited in production, and stamped with its assembly number). Also people will want to own a piece of history.

Tell me what you guys think!
    THANKS
    James

Re: Is it a good idea to buy a HUMMER H2 or a SRT10 Ram?

Dumb idea. I don't think gas is getting cheaper anytime soon, if ever. If gas money isn't an issue for you, go for the Ram since at least that's a decently cool truck. The H2 just sucks all around.

Re: Is it a good idea to buy a HUMMER H2 or a SRT10 Ram?

turning a profit on cars is extremely difficult and an H2 it would be impossible.

your only real rationale for doing something like this is buying an H2 dirt cheap and driving it for a few years normally seeing as what you save off of the sticker will be taken up in gas. either way youre going to come out about even.

a hummer H2 is not an investment

if u can afford an rs4 and u bring up an h2 in a "comparison" question, shame on you, young man (high school style) as said before - sit in the corner.

the only hummers I like involve warmth and saliva...and a girl.

I've always liked the Ram SRT but not enough to drop $$. Get it if you love it, but only if you are going to drive it/mod it/beat it up. You'll never get your money back, and there will always be something newer and faster for rich people to buy.

Re: Is it a good idea to buy a HUMMER H2 or a SRT10 Ram?

lol so I think I got the idea... Hummer H2; BADDD IDEA..... RAM SRT; suck up the 8mpg, Lift it, Mod it, and never wax it, change the oil, etc until it dies (lol)

Audi RS4 = Not a good idea at all to have brought up in comparison with the H2 & SRT.

I will let you guys know what my verdict is.

Re: Is it a good idea to buy a HUMMER H2 or a SRT10 Ram?

Heres the thing, it could easily be a couple of years before gas prices come down, and even though the h2 would not be driven and wouldn't rack up any miles the resale would still go down as the years go by because people will rather be buying a used 2008 h2 with 30k rather than a 2005 with the same mileage. There is no way you can come out ahead in this unless gas prices drop extremely soon and extremely rapidly.

Re: Is it a good idea to buy a HUMMER H2 or a SRT10 Ram?

this is a bad idea. cars are an expense, NOT an investment. they depreciate, and unless you have a historical car you won't ever make money on it while just letting it sit. especially letting it sit indefinitely...because gas prices aren't going to come down buddy. the car/truck market has already changed in consumers eyes. the economy isn't going back to it's normal guzzling self, once it gets better things will have already changed.

Funny thing is that it runs a CAT engine and has 300hp but 900lb-torque and gets something like 16MPG, which is better than my families Excursion
