C5 A6 DIY upper grille

Just finished my DIY upper grille mod, now matches the lowers. Trim has been painted metallic gunmetal to match future mod to all vehicle trim.

Remove grille, mask off areas you do not want painted, lightly sand area to be painted, and paint.

slightly more complex than that, these peices are one off, I fabbed them using expanded aluminum, utilizing stock trim, rings and Quattro badge for uppers, and using the inserts on the bottoms, the bottoms pull out just like the stock ones do. DIY process takes about 3 hours for the upper and another 3 for the lowers

has lines going across and the lowers grills are diamond

Yup, I just fabbed them all myself to be sure that they all match perfectly. My pre-facelift A6 had the horizontal louvres on both top and bottom

Ah, I didn't realize you had fabbed the actual grille. Just thought it was a different grille with the surround trim painted.

yea Ive been wanting to do this for a while, I have mesh on the lowers and wanted to make a RS6 grill for the top to match on my pre-facelift, DIY would be awesome, thanks

hey guys...i decided to take out all my grill pieces and do a custom RS6 honeycomb grill mod for all 4 grill pieces on the front.

just wanted to resurrect this thread and see if anybody had any DIY's on removing the top and bottom grill pieces. Are they just held in by the clips?

So hey, you used flattened mesh for the upper and standard mesh for the lowers? Nice. Did you go get the mesh at Mcmaster-Carr? If so, do you have the part numbers for the mesh styles you used?

i got it on ebay the honeycomb grill powdercoated black. The bottom foglight grill pieces are gonna be interesting.

I actually done this for my AR, I carbon fiber wrapped the bezel and plastic dipped the grille. My fab work was pretty good, but I should of primed it before p dipping.
