Re: How do you hold your hands on the wheel?

I do it all, it depends on where I'm going and what method (active or passive).

If I'm passing people (active), it's always 10 and 2 or something like it.

If I'm just cruising in the middle or slow lanes (passive), I will relax and put one hand on the top or bottom of the wheel.

Re: How do you hold your hands on the wheel?

I almost always drive with my left hand at 12 with the right hand on the shifter. When they are not there, my left hand will be at 7 or my right hand will be at 4.

Re: How do you hold your hands on the wheel?

Normally i have my right elbow on the armrest with my hand somewhere near the shifter. And i take my left hand and grab the wheel anywhere between 9 and 12, depending on my mood at the time. But when things are getting pretty intense i have my hands firmly planted on the "ergonomic action knobs" for best steering performance

Re: How do you hold your hands on the wheel?

I usually drive with one hand on the wheel (12' oclock) and the other on the shifter. But after watching the mythbusters episode on the broken hands/airbag myth. I now drive at the 10-2 position. When these airbags open they can ruin your day and break your elbow or thumbs. I can image someone on his i-phone and next thing he knows it's lodged in his throat. Paranoid? yes, maybe LOL

Re: How do you hold your hands on the wheel?

I don't know how the hell everyone drives with one hand on 12 all the time, it tires the fuck out of my arm and sets you up to over correct big time should something suddenly cross your path.

It's 9 and 3 for me or one hand on 7 when I'm cruising...

I like 10 and 2, and when I'm crusing I like the bottom two rungs on the 4 spoke steering wheel.

Re: How do you hold your hands on the wheel?

Depends, when I'm driving fast on the highway, I like to keep my hands at 9 and 3. Otherwise I usually keep my left hand on 9. And if I'm really lazy, keep it at 6, just letting it chill.

Re: How do you hold your hands on the wheel?

Am I the only one to drive with left on 9/10 and right on shifter? It's kind of silly since I have a tip, but I still do that -- plus easier to change music.

    When I need to really Drive, 10 & 2.

If I'm cruzing, left elbow on door with hand at 11. Right hand on the shifter.

Re: How do you hold your hands on the wheel?

Cruisin': Left hand only 12, 10 and 6:30
    Driving: Left 9:30, Right 2:30

Recently I found out that during driver education the instructors no longer suggest 10 and 2 as the hand positions. As of now it is 4 and 8, due to air bag deployment?????? If instructors could just focus on teaching people how to drive we would be better off. $.02
