    Edge of tire wearing down.

As I was changing my oil the other day I noticed that the inside edge of my front drivers side tire was worn down. I just had it brought in 4 months ago for an alignment and suspension inspection. They replaced one of the control arms on the passenger side and aligned it. They said that whomever aligned it last time did a horrible job and that it was way off. Well after noticing the tire wear I brought it in for an alignment check at a different place this time cause my normal spot was closed, and all was still perfectly aligned and all the suspension components were in top shape. is their anything else that could be causing the wear? I am lowered on eibach's paired with bilsteins but I am not as low as most people on here. It is possible that it was already wore due to the previous botched alignment, and I just now noticed it. Just wondering if their is anything else you think I should check. Thanx for any input.

Tire pressure maybe? Check that. It sounds like a toe issue.

Check tire pressure first, you may have run a little un-inflated for a time. Second, lowered cars get negative camber, leading to inside tire wearing.

Re: Edge of tire wearing down.

Camber alone increases tire wear very little. Toe will scrub the rubber right off the tires and kill gas mileage.

Are there any signs of uneven wear, cupping, or other irregularities?

Same thing happened to my car, I believe it to be the bearing.

x2. I was also going to suggest it to be the wheel bearing. But it could always be something else.

Yeah I'm pretty sure it's not the bearing, I have detected bad bearings on my parents vehicle before so I know the noise that goes along with them. As far as the tire pressure, it's all set to the recommended 32 from the fuel door, And I check it often. Also the car rides very smooth, the tires don't feel to be fighting each other.

Re: Edge of tire wearing down.

Is your car lowered? I molested my inner tire walls after a trip to Waterfest Last year after I lowered the car. Alignment afterwards seemed to solve that as my winter tires never had an issue with many miles on them. You won't feel the wheels fight one another, but there is definately a sign of that. Get an alignment if you want to save the tires.

Usually but not always. My wife's outback has a bad bearing and it is dead silent. The only sign is a vibration at 55 mph. Keep it under 50 and it is nice and smooth. Brand new wheels and tires too.

I've never run as low as 32. 36 at the lowest, 42 for road trips.

The alignment is good, It was just checked on Tuesday. I guess I'll go for a drive later and see if I notice any vibration at higher speeds.

Whoops I meant I have mine at 38 not 32 like I said earlier, Not sure what I was thinking. Also I went for a drive, got up to about 85 and their was no vibration. Hopefully the wear was just from the old botched alignment I got last year.

Rotate front to back and see if that corner exhibits the same type of wear again.

The vibration thing is kinda a one-off. Her car is the only one I've ever heard of acting like that.

Doh, onemoremile types faster than me...Do a front-to-rear tire rotation, and see if the new tires on the front go from OK to having the same odd wear pattern. Easy DIY, and if all looks well in a few thousand miles, then you are set.

Good idea, You're a smart man. I feel dumb for not thinking of that.
