Integrated Engineering V6 Rods- Introductory Sale- Save $125!!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!

After signing up to become a forum sponsor over the weekend, we felt a little introduction and celebration was in order. With that in mind, we put togheter this deep discount on these v6 rods. This is for a very limited time, at the moment we are thinking the first 10 sets or possibly 4 weeks. We can't run extended sales or sales very often because we maintain a dealer network so this is probably your one and only chance to grab some.

    -Pete @ IE

These guys have been a long time coming, but they are finally here, an economically priced forged rod which will drop in with the factory pistons on B5 S4, and will work with all VAG v6 engines. We had to do quite a bit of fidgeting to get these to fit into the stock bores, but we knew people wanted to use their factory pistons so we made it work. They use a 5/16" ARP 2000 bolt.

    Features:

    • 2 Piece Forgings from Vacuum Drawn 4340 Chrome Moly Steel
    • Multi Stage Heat Treat for maximum strength, dimensional stability, and fatigue life.
    • Fully Machined and Shot Peened
    • H beam Design
    • Tolerances as tight as .0003 ground on Sunnen brand equipment
    • Standard ARP2000 Rod Bolts
    • Computer Optimized Design
    • Magnaflux Inspected
    • Dimensionally Inspected
    • 550 grams (w/o bolts)
    • Packed in balanced sets +/- 1 gram.
    • All this at a price point that yields market leading value

    Standard Pricing:

    $849.99

    Introductory Special!

Use coupon code "audizinev6" and recieve a $125.00 discount.

*Please keep in mind we are on vacation so these will not ship out until the 21st of August when we return.

I just spent about 2 hours trying to find out and haven't been able to come up with anything- Its hard to get info on RS4 here in the States because we didn't get them. I would be more then happy to refund your money or work with you to make them fit, in the event that they did not, or we might even do an RS4 rod if that was the case.

Let me know we'll work something out.

So far just 3 sets sold- Not sure what those ones are going to but so far most of the people I've been talking too have builds looking for 500-600whp reliable in their daily drivers. We're stocking up on 30v rebuild parts and ordering pistons so we should have that stuff in stock. The OEM stuff will be in stock when we get back, the pistons will take quite a while.

How many running/operating cars are these rods currently installed in? Where are these rods made? Any sort of reassurance that the first group of buyers will not be guinea pigs?

    Thanks.

Re: Integrated Engineering V6 Rods- Introductory Sale- Save $125!!

These are a new release, so to my knowledge there are only a few cars running these so far. We have not shipped many sets yet. They are forged and machined in China, the magneflux, inspection, measuring and testing is all done in Utah. We are aware of the usual questions involving import rods and this is why we test our product extensively. We check for: imperfections in the beam and the actual forging using magneflux, overall size of the big and small end, roundness of the big end, weight, and we destructively test samples to ensure the alloy strength is up to par, as well as to provide verification that our products are living up to what they have been designed to do.

We are not new to this game we have sold hundreds of sets of rods for 1.8t and other vw 4 and 6 cylinders, just new to the audi stuff- Like I said, this is a brand new application for us.

    Thanks for your continued support!

We are going to do pistons, and possibly stroker kits. Anybody care to share what compression ratio you guys lust over? We usually go for about 9:1 for our shelf / stock pistons but I might as well ask...

9:1 is a solid option. People can also get the 034 compression dropping gaskets if they wish to go lower. I would maybe stock an 8.5:1 for the guys looking to go real big.

Your average guy buying these is probably going to want peace of mind when running an RS6 setup or possibly some GT25s, so your 9:1 should cover them fine

    :)

I'd think an S4 will feel fine even a bit low on compression since it isn't a dinky 4 cyl, especially in stroker crank configuration.

I'll keep that in mind guys we are working on the pistons right now but probably will be about 8 weeks. Depending on what their lead time is right now.

Hi there, 3/8" requires punching the motor out pretty far to get them to go down the hole. We may be offering some with 3/8" bolts later. The price will not be likely to drop, if anything given current trends with the economy and the dollar in particular they may go up.

what are you talking about? the stock bolts are greater than 3/8" diameter, its a matter of the rod not the motor

Re: Integrated Engineering V6 Rods- Introductory Sale- Save $125!!

Draw out the OD of the rod bearing, an 81mm bore, two 3/8" circles, and two larger circles around those representing the dowel pins on a piece of paper and you will quickly see the problem. The stock bolts are 8mm which is a good bit less then 3/8", and the factory rods do not require a dowel pin for alignment since they are cracked caps.

Trust me, it barely works down the stock bores with the 5/16" bolts. In fact, I would recommend they are wraped with some electrical tape prior to installation because otherwise you WILL scratch the bores.

I haven't laid it out yet, but going off numbers from our 5/16" bolts, I would think you would need at least an 83.5mm bore to get the 3/8" bolts to work. Just an estimate of course- if its something people are really interested in doing then just let me know I can certainly figure out the minimum bore, and make some.

Re: Integrated Engineering V6 Rods- Introductory Sale- Save $125!!

did the math your setup is ~73.6, 3/8" would be ~76.6, i looked up the stroke, my bad i didnt realize this engine is so undersquared at ~86. used to oversquared engines where is is not an issue

how much does the start of the rod big end protrude in to the cylinder?

Re: Integrated Engineering V6 Rods- Introductory Sale- Save $125!!

our rod is already about 80mm (blueprints not in front of me going from memory)- wide with the 5/16" bolts, and what I would call a VERY thin wall on either side of the dowel pin. So much so in fact that we prototyped them and checked for bore distortion as I wasn't convinced there was enough meat there. We also went with a special full radius design on the outside of the rod big ends to give the absolute maximum area available, wheras our other applications use a simpler 45 degree chamfer.

The big end doesn't really end up in the cylinder once assembled, but unfortunately the motors are such that the rod and piston absolutely cannot be inserted from the bottom, so that means the entire big end MUST fit down the bore.

The 4 cylinders are actually the exact same bore and stroke, and don't really have this problem because they use a smaller diameter, but wider rod bearing.

The real problem IMO is that boring the thing WAY out to where the 3/8" bolts will fit- makes for uncomfortably thin cylinders on the 88mm bore spacing. We stop at 83.5mm for the 4's on that same (88mm) spacing, and even that is risky, 84mm is for wild N/A builds with custom headgaskets only. I'm sure some guys are willing to do it, but I like to stay at least a TINY bit conservative on the bore sizing.

Given those parameters, I really think its almost better to stick with the 5/16" geometry and simply go with an L19 or custom age 6.5 etc high end rod bolt if high high rpm's are in the cards, not that the ARP2000's we supply are not good bolts.

This is something I have spent a fair bit of time considering since we decided to do the v6 rods and I got an initial look at the geometry. We are an ARP distributor of course so we can source whatever bolts required, unfortunately the L19's or custom age 6.5's are not cheap. Still, it seems to me that is the best of all worlds, getting the strength and preserving a decent cylinder wall thickness and not ending up with something nasty like annealed copper gaskets that will be a leak fest.

should be fine, not too many of these motors see passed 800whp anyways

thanks for the tech info always good to learn

    PS

arp states the the 3/8 arp 2000 were 11% stronger than the arp custom aged 5/16" bolts

Yep- area increases with diameter squared, and strength is directly proportional to area so diameter is king. But- the rod bolts don't really matter under torque, just RPM, and you need to remember that this same issue that causes this- the small bore of this engine- also means that we have a light, small diameter piston that doesn't require a huge rod bolt.

Yes those will work. You just have to use S4 con rod bearing shells (which are much chaper)

We can't run extended sales or sales very often because we maintain a dealer network so this is probably your one and only chance to grab some.
