    Cheap OEM turbo timer

Looking for a way to install a cheap turbo timer that looks 100% factory? For a long time I was thinking about the same thing and got sick of waiting in my car while it cooled down. Well first it has to be OEM. Next it has to have a timer. What could I use? How about a defrost switch? That's exactly what I used. I couldn't imagine a cheaper install that looks so factory.

My car is a 97 and it came with 3 switch blanks on the dash. Install took about 2 hours. This all depends on how picky you are with your wiring and what features you want the timer to have. I made sure i could still set my alarm and also wired in the parking brake as an additional security feature.

This shouldn't be too hard to figure out but if people want, I can post up my diagram. basically just follow the TT installs from AW but use the defrost switch as the timer. This may also work on later a4s. I guess i'm not sure if there are blanks in those that would accept that style switch or not.

this would also turn on the defrost while turbo timing?

Why not mount a turbo timer in the glove compartment? I did that and have been very happy with it. I don't have to hit the button everytime I turn off the key and I can adjust the length of time it runs for.

No it wouldn't run the defrost. You'd buy an additional switch to mount and wire in. The picture on the switch wouldn't make much sense i know and there are definitely disadvantages to this (lack of adjustment etc,) just an idea if people are looking for different, cheap options.

Isn't the timer in the switch @ 10mins or something like that? It takes awhile for my rear window to defrost, and it turns itself off after a set period of time no matter what.

yes it's ten minutes or so. Again, not the best option out there, just a different one.

well not of the work done. but as far as the final product, imagine one less switch blank and one more defrost switch.

look. I didn't start this thread for criticism. If you're not interested, then just read it and go on. I don't get why every time someone does something different on this site people hate on it. A few years ago I was talking about my meth injection and people pretty much thought of it as a joke. We see how that turned out.

So, how's the ground on the ebrake work? Does it only work when the ebrake is up? How do you turn it on a few minutes before getting where you are going without pulling the ebrake while driving?

    Re: Cheap OEM turbo timer

good question. I wired in a relay for that particular purpose. With actual key on the relay grounds the wire. this makes the install more than it needs to be. simply grounding the wire would work well. the alarm can still function and timer will go off so the ebrake isnt much more than a safety measure.
