Curbed my USP wheel (A4, 2005)

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I was driving back yesterday and just as I was going around the corner one guy cut me off a little and forced me onto the side of the road; there's a curb there and my USP front passenger side wheel got really scuffed....

There is also a little mark on the rear passenger side wheel...

So right now I'm thinking of maybe fixing these but I understand the USP wheels cannot be DYI since the hyper-silver (2-tone paint)? Is that correct?

Also, where would be a good source to pick up one-two of these wheels for a good price? I saw sets of 4-5 come up for sale here and virtually none are on Ebay.

    Thanks a lot!

what about your spare??.. it should be a matching USP wheel.. swap it with the front, it doesnt sound like the rear one is too bad..

check with Anmachen ([email protected]).. i dont think he has any USP right now, but he can look for you..

I did the same thing last fall,
With a sander and a bit of elbow grease I refinished the wheel using duplicolor silver wheel paint. cost about 30 total and 2-3 hours of work.

also check out tru-wheels in weymouth i think he quoted me 125 to refinish.

What is the story with the insurance? I assume if you submit a claim it will be treated as an 'accident' and the rates will go up multiple times the cost of one or two wheels, am I right?

I'm thinking of switching with the spare and then still fixing the front wheel; then maybe touching up the rear wheel a little (it's a very small spot where this happened on the rear, but really bad on the front).

How did it come out, do you have any pictures of the before and after?

I'm definitely gonna do it if you recommend it and it came out right.

Where did you get the duplicolor silver paint?

    Thanks a million.

You can DIY, to match the color you have to use Wurth wheel paint. The USP wheels are not two tone, but I would suggest a nice polish after the paint to give them that extra shine they seem to have. I am starting my wheels this afternoon, I'll have pics in about a month when I finish (i'm taking my time, don't need them until mid October)

dremel with sanding bit. sand down all curbage til smooth. then use sand paper to smooth out flush. sand the rest of the wheel in circular motion. spray with T191 duplicolor truck/van/car silver. turns out perfect like this. i did all four.

I have a brand new one with matching 235/35 SC2 tire. Was a spare, never used. PM me an offer, I won't be using it since I have another spare.

Where do you get the T191 silver color?

Also, do you think it'd work on doing part of the wheel only or the match would not be as good as doing the entire wheel?

    Thanks!

Re: Curbed my USP wheel (A4, 2005)

when you match paint you need the same paint and then wet sand and clear coat to match,

on you wheels they are small and have many lines so it is best to sand the ENTIRE rim down to the primer or at least get rid of all gloss, including inside the spokes. this is the hardest part but you will thank us when you paint does not flake off and look like crap.

i didnt take pics when i did mine but

find the problem areas and clean them up 80 grit or dremel
    apply light weight bondo
    allow bondo to cure
    sand
    apply second coat of bondo
    sand with 180 then 220
    sand entire wheel with 220
sand entire wheel with 300 or higher until surface is free from sctatches and nice and smooth

i did not use primer because the wheel paint is not designed for primer
    first coat
wet sand with 300 or higher
    second coat
    wet sand with 600
    third coat
    wet sand with 600
    forth coat
    allow to cure overnight

some may do a clear coat after everything is done and i was going to but the wheel came out well so i didn't

the wheel paint is some great stuff and it works well with minimum prep but even better with a bit of time.

    hope this helps you.

oh if you treat it like spraypainting your wheels it will look like you paid 20k for a car spent $5 to fix it. if you think of it as refinishing your rims it will look like it came from the factory.

also the silver wheel paint is a different shade of silver with a bit more metallic flake so do the one side and it will look fine, i only did one rim and only i can tell its a different shade.
