    Need a VAG-COM?

I just paid for the eBay cable from alpha-bid. If all goes well for me (Tip recode, One touch windows from key fob, and fogs on with High beams?) using my Vista laptop I'd like to share this cable for those who want to change a few simple codes. With the free version of software it seems like these basic mods can be done. I will put a copy of a CD with the software, instructions, and any of the codes I've come across in the box as well. I'd like to start a list of people who'd be interested in using the cable and would be willing to pay for the shipping to send to the next person. I will pay to have it shipped to who ever is next and when you're done with it you pay for the shipping to the next person. USPS Priority Mail would be <$5 and gets anywhere in the US in 2-3 days. So if you're interested please post on here. You can then PM or e-mail the person who has it your address to send it to. Thanks and hope this makes it past me sending it to one person!

hmm seems like after shipping you can just buy the cable for the same price. I think it would have been a good idea to do this with a Ross tech Hex Key that way it gives full functionality to anyone borrowing it.

    Re: Need a VAG-COM?

Well it will only be about $5 a person instead of $18~$20 through eBay. You only pay to ship it to the next person.

A Ross-Tech would be great but I don't feel like spending that much for it now especially if I'm just going to try and share it.

It was just an idea I had. Maybe no one cares? lol

I'm not going to lie this sounds like a really bad idea, who's to say that the first person doesn't just keep your cable and cd and instruction's and never forward it on?

    Re: Need a VAG-COM?

Someone very well could do that obviously. I'll take the chance though as I'd like to help repay the Audi community for all the great info I've received. I'm not much help to anyone mechanically so I figured I'd just try to be generous lol. I've had worse things happen to me that's for sure! lol

I've got the first two people lined up so if anyone else is interested please let me know. I should have the gauge today or tomorrow. Please e-mail me if you're interested in using it and willing to pay $5 to ship it to the next person through USPS Priority Mail. Thanks!!

    Re: Need a VAG-COM?

Well I was under the impression that Ross-Tech had a free version of software with limited capabilities that could be loaded on a laptop and used with a third party cable. If this is true each person should be able to load the software on their laptop and use the shared cable. I plan on putting the free software on a CD in the box with the cable as well as instructions and other VAG-Com information I've come across. Can anyone verify if that will work?

    Thanks!

    Re: Need a VAG-COM?

Well I got the cable in last night. I plugged it into my laptop with vista before loading ythe VAG-COM software. It took about 15 minutes to go through and find, download, and install two drivers. There was a small window for the driver install and when it was done actually said what COM port it was set up for. Once the drivers said they were installed and loaded I installed the free version of the RossTech software 409-1. I then went into the options and tested the COM4 port that was setup. Then off to the car with it. Plugged in the cable started the software, and then put the car to on. I went into the modules and the trans block. It pulled up the coding in 10 seconds and i was able to change my tip's soft coding to 00032 to hold first and to down shift into first. I then changed the remote locks to control the windows up and down and one touch unlock.

I came across a post of a guy with a 02 that was able to change coding in module 09 to allow to turn the fog lights on with the parking lights. I had no success getting in to that module though. I even tried the older software that someone was kind enough to give me the keygen for. That still didn't let me in the module though so I'm guessing there's a difference for the 02's and newer. I'm still thrilled that this was so easy. Simple changes make me a happy person! I'm sending the cable with info out in the next day or so so anyone else interested please contact me at [email protected]. Thanks everyone.
