Cool VAST Stage 3 Comparison Dyno Results

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Alright, today I went back to see the boys at EPL in Stratford to re-dyno my car after being Stage 3- with VAST on K04s, 5 Bar FPR, and a Hitachi Sensor, stock injectors etc. This dyno run was in February of 2008 and it made 286.7WHP/336WTQ....

Here's that thread for those that want to read up on VAST's 3-...
    http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...highlight=vast

Today I went to dyno, it was 83* @ 9.30AM and 83% humidity, terrible "conditions"... Anyways the setup is

    Bosch GG Injectors
    RS4 MAF/Intake tube
    RS4 Airbox
    AWE SMICs

Numbers go.... 350WHP/405WTQ....THIS IS ON A MUSTANG DYNO... Not a happy Dynojet or similar. Its the real deal

    VIDEO OF DYNO
    http://videos.streetfire.net/video/V...0-9ae0016a6463

This next graph is an overlay of my 3- results to 3.... Huge improvement and a great finish to the K04 project...

Now the next time I get to the dyno, I will have added an Innovative LM1 for much more accurate tuning abilities by VAST as well as DevilsOwn W/M injection. So we should see some higher numbers when all that comes...

    Enjoy

Haha I know. It sucks out here. $4.20 - $4.85 out here for only 91. Max boost I can run out here is 21. So I run advance timing on 19-20 psi. I need to dyno.

On Audiworld Tony from EPL who dynoed me even wrote in my thread saying how gross the conditions were in his shop. We did 3 pulls and EACH were a 4.2, thats right 4.2, terrible FATS times He said that his dyno is .1-.2 off from street... I have NEVER ever logged anything more than a 3.6x. My last chip from VAST pulled a 3.43 FATS times. And its on the best road I think on the earth for logging haha straight and flat for just the right amount of distance! But hey, of course we'd all like perfect conditions!

here is a video of my car i made to see how it pulls from the inside
    http://videos.streetfire.net/video/V...ids_173000.htm

you also have to look at the previous thread as i said in the post... if you look thats a dyno on the SAME machine in February of 08 when it was cold out that day etc etc. Those were my 3- numbers on his dyno (286.7/336)... And thats a "custom" tune from VAST. So any stage 2 would be even less on that. If you compare those numbers to my new, thats where you see the differences. You cant take someones 420WHP from a dynojet and compare it to 350 on a Mustang. That was the point of me going to the same dyno, if I wanted to impress* people I could of went to ICS Performance to get a higher number but the point of the matter was to show the big difference from stock fueling to the fueling kit.

also here's AWEs numbers from their site, done on a similar mustang dyno... looks to be more HP but less torque?

No not at all, if anything AWE's OTS will be more conservative than VAST will... Its not that VASTs is "aggressive" but you can tell them what you'd like. My car is a DD and it doesn't race on any track at any time. I MAY go down this fall to get a MPH because I dont want to launch it on my RS4 clutch... VAST is more custom, you get a base file, then you do logging and Mike will send you a new chip, then you log again, he'll see the changes if any can be made then another chip goes out. I'm done with my "chips" but I'm still running a tad rich, he doesn't want to take a risk, which is why I'm getting a Wideband so that he can be more accurate in his tuning.

Re: VAST Stage 3 Comparison Dyno Results

i don't know why people claim dynojets to be "happy" .. the dynojet we used to to dyno on used to make reasonable numbers.. 250 CHP rwd cars putting down 211 whp etc.etc. my car put down 306 whp on that dyno, and if those numbers are "happy" then there's no way a stage 2+ could keep close to an e46 M3.

Re: VAST Stage 3 Comparison Dyno Results

well see thats the thing. people can tell me, oh you make low numbers.... but there is no REAL way to tell unless there was the mother of all dynos in the middle of the country everyone went to. some have to be re-calbrated and all that crap etc. they say, and its known that dynojets read a higher spike than mustangs... but maybe there is a dynojet reading lower than a mustang! who knows...

thats the main reason why i did what i did... sure 350whp may seem low for stage 3's... BUT compare it to my 287.6 in february when it was 40* out on the SAME dyno, an increase of 60+ WHP/ 60+ WTQ is big right? People aren't looking at what i wanted to show, Tony plotted my 3- and 3 on the same graph to demonstrate the results....

as Derek said, RS4 Hybrids put down same numbers on mine on that dyno, so......

anyways, i wanted it to be an informative thread for those who are thinking hmm is full 3 realllly different from 2+ or 3- (since the numbers are similar) answer being YEEP !

We dont need another dyno 101... Its how the dyno is setup most of the time, and we all no which dynos are the happy ones so theres no need to keep going on about this dyno verse that dyno your wasting your time explaining it... Nice run!!!

thanks . i hate posting dyno results on AZ. lol. if i didnt have the 3- run on the exact dyno to compare, i wouldnt of bothered just information for my own.... i love where the car is now though, i was talking to tony @ epl about it and i think im pretty much going to hold onto the car, it seems @ stage 3 people get there then sell it realizing how much they've *invested* (wrong word for this car) and then get rid of it... my plans are maybe by senior year in college in 2 years i can do either RS6 project or a smaller GT 25 and a light engine build. . i do it all for myself though im not a street racer i almost killed myself once not doing risking it again

i wasn't really trying to discuss the dyno's or say your numbers are low, just bringing up the fact that the dynojets i've been on seem to be making reasonable/correct power... i wouldn't have mentioned anything but you posted " not a happy dynojet" which i think is partial misinformation. no had you said a "not a happy dynapac" we would be in 100% agreement.

Dynojets are happy. I made 310 on stage 2+ with stock IC's. My roommate made 370 with his EVO on the same dyno, 20 minutes earlier. That same EVO made 380 on Sean Ivey's dynojet dyno about 3 weeks prior to that.

The only real performance/power measure are ET and traps.

now people tell me that trap speeds show the performance not so much ET. This fall I'm going to bring my car to the track, hopefully on a day with a few other people that would be fun, maybe you once your car is finished and a few others but Prince from VAST was like if you dont wanna launch on your RS4 clutch, just roll out and get a MPH, he said people will look at that over your ET because there is always a better driver who can do the launch all perfect etc. but hey, as i said earlier im LEARNIN!

I couldn't launch on my rs4 clutch...I would just slip until 4th gear. But yea, if you are trying to show your power you can just let it out easy and get on it from there.

Well if you are putting 350 down with stage 3 on DJ, and I putting 310 down with stage 2+, I'd be pretty disappointed with my stage 3 file.

I'm planning on hitting Englishtown in late Sept / early Oct before they close. My car should be re-tuned by then. As it gets closer I'll start something in the NorthEast forum.

i put down 306whp 366 tq at stage 2+.. if that was "happy" i had no business keeping close to a VERY well modded e46 m3.

I put down 415 WTQ on EPL's dyno in april in my car, right after stg 3 upgrade, I am going back in the fall, sense i changed the exhaust set up to see if i gained any from it. the WHP was 347 but I also have a TIP car, more drive train loss i belive over a 6spd.

well you have to factor in different variable conditions (ambient, dyno itself, etc) plus don't rule out average whp/tq is much higher than peak.
