My turbo died. I want a bigger one now!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
The stock turbo of my B6 A4 1.8TQ died.
I would love to put in a bigger one now. Would I have to do any other changes in order to get the bigger turbo?
What would you suggest for a budget up to $2,000

    Cheers

only if sports clutch, intercooler, injectors, programming, bigger brakes, boost guage, and suspension upgrades are in the $2000 budget.

stock brakes are dangerous, stock clutch is weak, stock intercooler is dismal.

Re: My turbo died. I want a bigger one now!

I have sport suspension (KONI) and Galfer AP Racing brakes (4 pistons, 330 mm).
Also, my car is chiped with MTM Stage 1. Will I have to change the chip if I go for a bigger turbo?
    Any suggestions for the rest?

If your budget is only 2k, i'd say forget it. Unless you can deal with riding around with a BT and staying below 3k rpms until you get everything else you will need.

At the minimum, double what your budget is.

Maybe find a used K04 and FMIC and supporting mods...if you dont have BT aspirations? You could easily find those for under 2000.00

k04 is your best bet, pick up the turbo, software, and a nice FMIC

Re: My turbo died. I want a bigger one now!

once you go to the next step up from the K04 (a GTRS) you are looking at $1400-$1500 for the turbo ($1000-1300 for a used one) and another $700 for a new flash since your stage 1 will not work with a different turbo. you will also need a clutch (i have a tiptronic so i don't know what thats gonna run you), front mount intercooler ($300-$1000), and a exhaust (you can find some nice used ones on the forums)your going to be looking at about $3000 if you can find a used turbo and exhaust, more like $3500-$4000 if you go new.

BUT DAMN IT IS WORTH IT!

with that budget id say MTM's K04 sice you already have their chip, the upgrade will be easier on the wallet. and MTM's k04 kits are really nice, with 100 octan program and all supporting mods you could be in the mid/upper 13's (1/4 mile). But yes, if you upgrade turbo, you WILL need clutch, intercooler, and exhaust.

Re: My turbo died. I want a bigger one now!

    For a proper GTRS setup:

    GTRS $1495
    Manifold $349
    REVO BT Software $699
FMIC (Id recommend an ER Comp) $1,400
    Testpipe $200
    Exhaust $800-1k
    TIP $300
    430 Injectors $375
OFE SS $585 or FE SS $650

Or dont waste your time. Pieced together BT setups will get you nowhere and cost you more in the long run. Do it right or dont do it at all. As said a K04 sounds like it better fits your budget!

I've learned a lot guys thanks. The GTRS setup is very expensive, but just for the records:
How many bhp am I looking at? How many for the K04?
what are the OFE SS, FE SS. Damn, so many things I didnt know, or maybe i dont know their english term (I am Greek).

GTRS will do around 260-270awhp on pump gas and 300-320awhp on race gas. K04 will be lucky to get 210-215awhp

OFE and FE SS are two different Southbend clutches
