I didn't get a chance to drive the new A4, but I don't want to until the manuals come in. I have NO desire for the slushbox auto.
A twin-clutch, yes, the tippytronic, NO!
The B8 was a basic A4 2.0T with auto trans. It was MSRP about $35k.
The interior was of course spectacular, beautiful.
The B8 was parked right next to a B7 A4 2.0T, both new.
B8 front looks nice with a bit of attitude, B7 looks just as good.
B8 rear end looks pathetic in base. The exhaust looks like it belongs on a Jetta. Twin tips on one side so lackluster it makes you wonder "why!?", especially sitting next to the "older" B7 with it's nice dual exhaust.
Also, I have always hated the non body color rear diffuser and it looks awful on the B8. I really hope the S-line or sport model has a body colored rear diffuser to help it look better, especially with the booooring exhaust tips. The base aluminum wheels have NO appeal what so ever.
It looks like any wheel was slapped on. The on nice thing about them is they have somewhat of a inset "lip" which gives the tire a decent chunky appearance, but overall it's bored.
The much talked about shorter front overhang is so missable. You would think it would be more significant, but I had to think about it to remember it's supposed to be shorter. The net effect didn't appeal as much as I thought it would. It needs even less overhang. The front bumper is so overwrought with trying to look sporty that any gain in shorter overhang by moving the wheels forward is visually negated by having over down front bumper spoilers.
The rear end looks thin and reminds of the Honda Civic much more so than the B7. The B7 has a nice butt just like the B6 did. The B8 lost too much rear and thus lost some appeal. Hey, big butts are in and I can not lie.
