I Drove the new A4 today!!!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Just drove it for the first time and all I can say is wow!!!!! This car is better than all the previous A4's in everyway possible. The steering feels so much more accurate, throttle response is crisper and the tranny shifting is so smooth you cant even feel gear changes. It was the 3.2, so I will be curious to feel the difference between this and the 2.0t. Anyway, I was skeptical before this morning, now I'm itching to get one...

Re: I Drove the new A4 today!!!

I drove the 2.0 the day before yesterday and was not impressed. Granted it was an automatic and I have a chipped 6 speed, but I was a little dissapointed in the speed. It drove more like and A6 than an A4, the car felt big. I think this is just the approach Audi is taking though. Drving was smooth, the interior was gorgeous, but the B7 seems a lot more fun to drive. Also, the engine seemed sorta loud, it seemed much more like a diesel. My biggest let down is th exhuast, I want the dual exhuast we usually get on A4's.

I might be being to critical becuase I had such high expectations, but I can't wait to drive the manual and see the sport seats in person. Maybe then I'll change my mind.

For now, I'll stick with the B7 and keep saving for the RS4.

Re: I Drove the new A4 today!!!

I, too drove the 2.0T Premium with Bluetooth yesterday.
The dealership was upset they only got pretty basic A4s. They didnt even want to let me drive it to not spoil my opinion about the new A4
Anyway, the drive was pretty short. The car felt just like my chipped A4 - the interior is nicer even in the basic form. But the premium now - doesnt have dual climate control anymore.
And the front bumper looked pretty aggressive even w/o the S-line package.

The salesperson said that the Driver Select package will make quite a difference.

I drove the new B8A4 2.0T at an audi-sponsored event. They had the 330xi, C300, and IS250 there for direct comparison and you could drive them all. None of the other cars feel like they're in the same class as the new A4, it's really a standout car amongst those others, especially in the interior where the other cars lack (especially the Benz).

Delux, did you drive at the Pocono event? If so, they only had the 3.2 there. No 2.0t.

From what I've read on Audi's website there is no 6 speed offered this year on the A4. Did I read incorrectly?

How is the space in the back seat?
I've read some review that it's quite cramped.

I didn't get a chance to drive the new A4, but I don't want to until the manuals come in. I have NO desire for the slushbox auto.
A twin-clutch, yes, the tippytronic, NO!

The B8 was a basic A4 2.0T with auto trans. It was MSRP about $35k.
The interior was of course spectacular, beautiful.
The B8 was parked right next to a B7 A4 2.0T, both new.
B8 front looks nice with a bit of attitude, B7 looks just as good.
B8 rear end looks pathetic in base. The exhaust looks like it belongs on a Jetta. Twin tips on one side so lackluster it makes you wonder "why!?", especially sitting next to the "older" B7 with it's nice dual exhaust.

Also, I have always hated the non body color rear diffuser and it looks awful on the B8. I really hope the S-line or sport model has a body colored rear diffuser to help it look better, especially with the booooring exhaust tips. The base aluminum wheels have NO appeal what so ever.
It looks like any wheel was slapped on. The on nice thing about them is they have somewhat of a inset "lip" which gives the tire a decent chunky appearance, but overall it's bored.

The much talked about shorter front overhang is so missable. You would think it would be more significant, but I had to think about it to remember it's supposed to be shorter. The net effect didn't appeal as much as I thought it would. It needs even less overhang. The front bumper is so overwrought with trying to look sporty that any gain in shorter overhang by moving the wheels forward is visually negated by having over down front bumper spoilers.

The rear end looks thin and reminds of the Honda Civic much more so than the B7. The B7 has a nice butt just like the B6 did. The B8 lost too much rear and thus lost some appeal. Hey, big butts are in and I can not lie.

Re: I Drove the new A4 today!!!

Pacific Audi (Torrance, CA) has soooooo many B8's its incredible! THey just got 400 of them, and they got them all at once that there having to let the B7's go for a dime a dozen! I was there with my B6 3.0 and they wanted to give me a ridiculous amount off had I KEPT my B6 (yes, they didnt want me to trade it in) and had I driven out with a B7.. I was kinda interested so I had the guy do the numbers for me.... this was the verdict...

    2008 Audi A4 3.2 S-Line
    MSRP with all options: $39,820
Discount b/c of there desperateness: 14,862
    Final price: $24,958!
Black on Black suede inserts too! I was like, OMG this is soooo tempting!

Im telling you there desperate... Not to mention there RS4... They had a blue one there, and the MSRP was 84K for it... The manager walked out and told the sales lady I was with to "exuse us for a minute" and he said that if I were to purchase this car within the week I would get it for $60k (that includes the trade-in money for my car too) My eyeballs almost popped out!

Re: I Drove the new A4 today!!!

Ya no joke... My audi dealer (pacific audi) got there B8's sooner than they expected... The lady told me they were supposed to only get like 20-30 and they had another backorder list for 100 apx., but there B.O. completed sooner than expected so they got a call from the San Diego Port that there order had arrived! Since they only have 150 parking spots for new cars in there sister lot (Pacific VW) and those 150 are full of TT's, A5/S5, A6,A4(b7)/Q7, etc. They have to make space for them because there in transit on there way to Torrance,CA!!! There pre-owned lot across the street she showed me had/has sooo many new audi's that the lot (designed for pre-owned) has been temp shrunk to the size of a pea since they need the space for there new cars!! Its crazy! There service lot has new cars all over the place! Its amazing!
