    ACCIDENT

Firstly, I'm from New York --- down in Florida visiting family. I've never been in an accident once in my life until now...

It apparently rained a few hours ago and certain spots are slick. I was taking a turn around 30 mph--- I started skidding off the road. There was a telephone pole and ground wires from the pole about 10 feet off the road. I was headed straight-on towards the pole and ground wires. I luckily managed to get in between the pole and ground wires the best I could--- I clipped the front left side of my Audi against the pole... and the right side just got scraped by the ground wires.

Anyways, I get out... I turned my wheel. I look under and the whole frontend split. It's dropped down like a foot.

I was in my family's community here... I always wear my seatbelt. But, for some idiotic reason I didn't have my seatbelt on yet--- (I was about 30 seconds out of my family's driveway... down the street) and I walked away with not a scratch on me.

How much does it cost to replace the frontend on a 99 Audi A4 1.8TQM?

I'll post pictures off my iphone soon. This just happened an hour ago.

A sheriff came onto the scene, he was helpful and realized it wasn't due to careless driving, so he left.

I can't believe this happened. That was my baby. My daily driver.

    Re: ACCIDENT

Okay. Upon closer inspection in the driveway here--- the wheel bearing housing is split in half. And the lower control arm is bent like a pretzel. And other than that... the driver's door won't close--- the door frame is bent by like 1/4" --- is it possible to straighten this out? The engine+tranny and front axle look fine. I think I might have gotten lucky. My main worry right now is the door frame--- is it possible to straighten this out (considering its a minute bend) --- and if so, what type of shop fixes this? Thanks for the support, guys.

Sounds like it might be totaled. Have your insurance adjuster take a look at it

    Re: ACCIDENT

i'm pretty sure you're totalled. i'd buy it back and part it or reregister it as salvaged. where in NY are you? there's an a4 in the junkyard here that still had both front spindles when i was there last week.

On CLick and Clack's new show they called it the Compensator and the new Mega Compensator. I think it is the most appropriate name ever.

    Re: ACCIDENT

It sounds totalled. You could get a hammer and dolly set and start learning a new trade or pay someone that knows what they are doing dozens of hours of labor to get it right. You're dealing with complex geometry and a mating condition so not only does it have to be the right shape it has to match up with the door and provide a reasonable seal. That isn't easy.

I couldn't find any junkyard called QCP or anything close to it in Brooksville
