    Snub Mount Centering

    I changed my oe snub mount to a stern mount as part of my timing belt work. I figured since I had the bumper off, this was the best time. Now that I'm done I am getting significant vibrations at idle (5 speed manual-in neutral). I was under the impression that since I did not remove the mount, just the snub itself, it should already be centered. Do i need to loosen the mount now, let it idle for 30 sec - 1min, then tighten, or should i just go back to stock if i cant take the vibrations?

    Did you try to adjust the backing plate that the snub fits in at the front bumper reinforcement? Should take no time to center it to where it doesn't touch the backing plate. You should not be getting noticeable vibrations with just a snub mount.

    No i have not cracked those 3 bolts, while i had the bumper off i was able to directly pull the old mount and pop back in the new one (after hot soappy water). Therefore i never needed to remove the mounting plate. My question is do i have to let it re-center itself, even though i never removed the mounting plate in the first place?

    I am talking about the mounting plate on the front end not on the engine side. Just go under there and loosen the bolts on the bumper support side and center the that plate around where the snub mount currently sits. That's all you really need to do.

    Aftermarket mounts are significantly larger than the OEM, so you probably need to adjust the "cup" as I call it. When I installed my Apikol I had to lower the cup as far as it would go to prevent the new mount from touching the edges of the cup (and thus not vibrate).

    There's no need to remove the bumper to do this on a B6. Just crawl under and look at your oil pan area - you'll see it.
