Real 55watt HID ballasts (
bulbs can be regular 35watt, they will just not last as long) are so bright, they are illegal for any onroad application even with proper aiming. Factory HID projectors are not designed to handle the increased intensity, especially the DOT kind, that lets a certain amount of light bleed above the cutoff shield to better illuminate overhead highway signs. Unfortunately, most of these sub-200$ 50/55watt kits are bs, and can't even approach the ~6000 lumens (
4300K bulbs) that a real 50watt kit like we install on airplanes, is capable of. It's just creative marketing, in a oversaturated HID kit market.
