    Apexcone 50w HID kit

Anybody on here have experience with this? I ordered this, got it in and it clearly says on the box the output is 35w. Cant find any numbers anywhere else on the balasts or the bulbs. Been trying to get a hold of them and cant get through. The 55w kit was $25 more.

    I think I got rooked.

What does the ballast say? It's unlikely, but it may be in the wrong box

    Re: Apexcone 50w HID kit

^the ballast has no numbers or anything, it just says "DDM." Usually there is a sticker with output numbers, warnings, and shit like that but nothing on this. Here is a pic off their website of the kits, you can clearly see stickers on these ballasts...but mine dosent have them. the kits are nice, the ballasts are tiny just wondering if i got sent the wrong ones.

Hmm... looks legit. They might have just sent you the wrong ones. Did you check your invoice, does it show you paid for the upgrade to 55w?

    Re: Apexcone 50w HID kit

Looks good, I would just call them up. A questionf or you, is there a reason you went wth the 55W instead of 35W?

    Re: Apexcone 50w HID kit

Is 55W really that much brighter than 35W? I had the 35W Apexcone kit and it worked well in my fog lights until a tow truck ripped my front end off and damaged to wiring.

I ordered these too. I placed an order for 55w 3000K H11 (fogs) but my invoice says 50W but shows I paid $25 extra for the 55W and $5 extra for 3000K.

    ...yikes...

    Re: Apexcone 50w HID kit

I finally got a hold of them (i was calling kind of early, may have not been open). He said there is no warning labels on them but said if its a 50w kit the DDM logo will be on the top right and the dimensions of the ballasts are a bit larger (which are 4 x 2.5 x 7). I think i remember the logo being in the top right, i'll have to check this again when i get home.

    Re: Apexcone 50w HID kit

I emailed them and got a response back in under 5 mins!!

It's the old part number. They originally came out with a 50W ballast and that's when we built part numbers. We haven't updated all the part numbers.

    I'm sorry for any confusion.

    Best regards,

    Re: Apexcone 50w HID kit

put them in last night and they work great, i got 6000k. a little difficult to get a clean installation with that extra little box tho. most kits just have a ballast, but these guys made the ballasts extra thin (which would be just the inverter) and have an external igniter. The inverters mount nicely in the stock HID ballast location under the headlight housings but it was tough finding a spot for that igniter. Just an FYI for those who are thinking of purchasing these.

oh, and according to the details I got from Apexcone, I DO have the 55w kits after all.

he's saying because the ballast is so thin the igniter is separate and it's kinda difficult to find a place to hide it for a clean install.

They are most likely not 55w at all and the bulbs are still 35w.
If you have doubts we will test the ballast for you free of charge and give you a full report with comparisons. I'll even pay the cost of shipping!

    Re: Apexcone 50w HID kit

Mine came in yesterday. They are supposed to be plug and play but there's still 2 loose wires for each side 1 red and 1 black that have a metal ending idk wtf those are for so i called them and they told me all this confusing wiring language about you have to tap this and do that, and i'm sitting here thinking i thought these were plug and play...

Well when I come to wiring and stuff i have absolutely no clue about anything, thats why i didnt get it. So Im gonna wait for my dad to get home from vacation and i'll see if he can help me out.

As for your problem, call their customer service and check with them because it's really good, I've called twice, I just dont understand the wiring stuff they tell me.

Real 55watt HID ballasts (bulbs can be regular 35watt, they will just not last as long) are so bright, they are illegal for any onroad application even with proper aiming. Factory HID projectors are not designed to handle the increased intensity, especially the DOT kind, that lets a certain amount of light bleed above the cutoff shield to better illuminate overhead highway signs. Unfortunately, most of these sub-200$ 50/55watt kits are bs, and can't even approach the ~6000 lumens (4300K bulbs) that a real 50watt kit like we install on airplanes, is capable of. It's just creative marketing, in a oversaturated HID kit market.

I run the Apexicone 55watt kit in 5000k. Brighter than 35watt? Possibly, but not that much more.
