Super quick question. Okay to let clutch break?

Sorry to make a whole thread for this but I couldn't find it anywhere. b5 2001.5 a4 5spd. My clutch has been slipping more and more for about 3 months. Is it okay to let it keep dying until it breaks? or is that a bad idea. I will replace it with a southbend stage 2 or 3 clutch, the only question is when. Thanks!!

    Replace.

No point waiting until something breaks, unless you wish to spend more money. Plus, if you are looking to keep the original flywheel (resurface), then the sooner the better. The last thing you want is metal on metal instead of metal on friction material...

    Just my $0.02...

Re: Super quick question. Okay to let clutch break?

I ended up driving a car with basically no clutch waiting on my SB + flywheel.
I was up to the point slipping above 2.5k (depends on throttle load) rpm and more than 10-15% throttle.

I was worried, I searched a lot on google and couldn't anything about overdoing the clutch. If you get to the point where its hard to engage a gear, you must rev match.

Dual mass cant be resurfaced more than 0.02" i think and I was told you need a special stone.... expensive.

I have a stock 2001.5 1.8T a4 quattro clutch & stock flywheel with 14k miles on it that was just pulled from my car to be replaced with a SB stage 5 clutch and spec flywheel.

If you are interested, shoot me a PM.

Clutches don't just break - they leave you stranded.

Mine would slip in boost, or 4500rpm+. Kinda drove like a CVT at first, then got worse.

I'd say let it go, but I'd be ordering parts like 2 weeks ago. Replace the flywheel with a steel single mass and be done. 16lb F/W for me, and no problems.
