my girlfriend just picked up a 2004 avant today pics tomorrow of course.. but i had a quick question, i drove it today and i noticed if i get on it hard from a stand still, it will let the rpms rise ALL the way to redline, like right to 7k almost before shifting. is this normal? i figured it would shift at like 5.5 or so?? other than that its tits! 2004 denim blue with only 18000 miles im jealous anyways... any help is always greatly appreciated... thanks.

yes... normal... so sad. it's definitely serious turbo lag (if she has a 1.8T).

other German cars do not do that though (comparing to '08 C350 & '06 330i).

I'm new to this car as well. Are these trannys supposed to be a bit sloppy in first? By sloppy I mean it kind of slams into gear when accelerating from a stop with moderate throttle...almost like the TC locks up solid. It also shifts kind of hard at the 1-2 shift at part throttle. it just doest seem right, i think i'm going to test drive another one to see if it acts the same.

Re: To all the tiptronic owners....

the only think i have found about mine that i don't like is that after going into 2nd it's like it's not fully engaged until about 2 seconds after, you can feel it grab, it starts to go, then it grabs all the way, almost like it's going from 1st, to 1.5 then to 2nd. I am assuming the tranny work i'm going to get done will tighten this up.

i've got Revo stage 3. happens no matter how much power i'm putting down to it. could be the tq converter locking up but i don't know why it would have a extra few seconds hesitation in second and not any other gears, i don't know much about the insides of the tiptronic transmission. i heard it's not that hard to pull the valve body and tq converter but i think i might still have my shop to it since i don't want to have to buy a new tranny if i do it wrong, they will let me watch.
